Smurfs have named a near full strength team.

RedMayne back after his covid.

Retre starts,I think Amini should but Corica seems fixated on Retre.

FC have a strong bench,No DONaKEY which is a good move.

Think I'll change my tip to a 2-1 smurf win.

Adelaide not looking good, Clough to me looks a complete waste of a visa spot.

So Adelaide's strip is Red, they come to Syd and change it to Blue, their opponents play in light blue. I wasn't aware that Red and Blue clashed.

This usually happens because the kit sponsorship contract requires the team to use the specific home/away kits in those home/away matches and they only use the other kits if the APL/FFA Match Commissioner or Ref tells them to just a different one because of a kit clash.

Seems like Brisbane don't have this and are just using their regular home kit for the match against Victory when their white away kit would work fine. Their kit supplier is someone called UCAN, I've never heard of them.

ADL win....

Just...my scoreline was looking good for a long time.

SMURFFS are out of the finals, once all the games are played.

Its ALL on Corica, didnt replace the old  dead wood in the off season, bought some squaddy level players in.

HOW Retro gets a full game and Amini who has shots and works his butt off, cant get a minute?

Bimbi's time is over, he can take it easy on his Vietnam holiday. They will be battling to score, let alone win.

I flicked on and saw SFC seemed to be going okay and turned onto Vuc to see what they would thump Roar by. Looked tired and couldn't shoot.

Assumed SFC regulation win a d then read they lost in last min + extra time???!!! Worse than us against Roar - we had to gift them a goal!

They will probably need at least 4 points from their last games and those are Victory & Roar. Makes that robbery in the derby even more important, without those two extra points they'd need to win both of them.

Would still much rather be in their position than ours. They are having a bad season by their standards but remain in the finals mix until the end at least.

I find it hard to cheer any perceived predicament of theirs from our lowly position. ESFC missing out on the finals would be ok, but no positives for WSW.

Yep I don't get us taking joy out of it..fair enough if we ahead of them but last I looked we were behind them on the table and has just thrown ponts away in a pathetic performance

SFC get a $5000 fine for breaking the competition rules around U23 players in three games.

The 3rd game (the 2-0 derby loss to WSW) they were found "not guilty" because the APL didn't notice.

The other two were changed to 3-0 losses (they already lost those, so the points standings don't change), which changes their goal differences figures. They lose one goal for (from the 2-1 City game), while City get one extra Goal for (the 2-1 win going to 3-0) and WU get two extra goals for (their 1-0 win going to 3-0).

Funny how that gets released at 6pm on the night before a 4 day long weekend. And that they've got away with a third breach instead of having their punishment increased to something in the 5 figure mark with loss of competition points.

SYDNEY FC FINED OVER BREACH OF COMPETITION REGULATIONS

The APL can today announce that Sydney FC has been fined after it was found to have breached the Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s competition regulations.

A show cause notice was issued to Sydney FC over the make-up of its substitutes bench for three games in February and March, specifically for not having enough players below a certain age as is mandated in the competition rules.

To have seven players on the bench, at least three had to have been eligible to play for the Australian national teams and have been born on or after January 1 1998 – the so-called “U23 rule”.

Following correspondence between the League and the Club, including an appeals process, the APL have determined that a breach occurred in the two matches against Western United on February 23 and Melbourne City on February 26. In both cases, Sydney FC had fewer than three such eligible players, and as a result has been fined $5000.

Under competition rules, sanctions could have included a reprimand, fine or loss of competition points. However APL has noted that its processes did not identify the initial breach within the three days between the games and this may have contributed to the second breach.

APL has also noted that Sydney FC’s substitutes bench against Western Sydney on March 5 also did not include the requisite number of eligible players, but has not found the club guilty in recognition of the delay in identifying the initial breach.

“These rules were put in place to ensure young Australian players receive as many playing opportunities as possible, and so it’s important that we ensure they are observed,” said A-Leagues Commissioner Greg O’Rourke.

“It’s incumbent upon clubs to be fully aware of the eligibility requirements, however we acknowledge that if this had been picked up sooner then any subsequent breaches may not have happened. In the circumstances we deem a fine of $5000 is appropriate.”

In addition, under competition rules, the result in the games against Western United and Melbourne City automatically becomes a 3-0 loss to Sydney FC. Consequently:

  • an additional three (3) goals will be added to Sydney FC’s goals ‘against’ tally and one (1) less goal for their ‘for’ tally.

Furthermore, Sydney FC’s opponents for the relevant matches will have their goals adjusted as follows:

  • Western United FC will receive two (2) additional goals for their ‘for’ tally and
  • Melbourne City FC will receive one (1) additional goal for their ‘for’ tally and one (1) less goal for their ‘against’ tally.

With the sanctions in mind, APL can also confirm that the following remains unchanged:

  • any goals scored by any of the Club’s Player during the Matches will:
    • still be counted for the individual for the purposes of determining the winner of the Golden Boot;
    • be eligible to be voted for the Goal of the Year; and
  • any Johnny Warren Medal votes awarded to the Club’s Players for the Matches will remain valid.

What a random punishment. Effectively a 6 point deduction which is big but then a pissy $5k fine which for a club like Sydney is absolute pocket change. That sounds like they let the person writing press release pick the punishment…

They lost all the games involved. So they didn't lose any points, just some goal difference changes.

Yeah but had they won them it was basically a points deduction which doesn’t seem comparable to a $5k fine

I wonder if this defence will hold up in court. “Yes your honour I was caught speeding three times, but because you didn’t fine me straight away for the first two, then I can’t be held responsible for the third one”.

But what do you expect when club bosses now control the league. They are not going to actually penalise themselves.

The APL is trying way too hard to mitigate the Smurfs responsibility here. It’s the responsibility of the clubs to follow the rules. Getting away with it multiple times should make the offence more serious, not reduce the punishment.

I work in a heavily regulated industry where we get audited regularly. If an auditor finds a nonconformity I can’t use the excuse that we’ve been doing the wrong thing for ages and you didn’t find it last time you checked. They’ll just assume it’s a long term, systemic issue, and increase the severity of the finding.

The APL absolutely should have better processes in place to catch this immediately, but that doesn’t change the fact Sydney FC repeatedly broke the rules and got caught.

Does this set a precedent now? “Yeah we’ve been engaged in widespread, ongoing match fixing. But after we did it the first time you didn’t punish us or say it was wrong, so really all the subsequent offences are your fault.”

Smurf downward spiral,

Lose 2021 GF

Dont qualify for 2022 top 6( yeah I know they need a miracle, but I;m not believing its happening)

Possibly in playoffs for FFA cup spot?

Cleanout of coach and players about to happen.

Going back to a 45k stadium with averages of 5045,they fill one seat in every 9....great for social distancing.

And to top it off, currently on the end of season trip away in Vietnam.Bottom of their group with 2 points from 12 and a minus 4 GD from four games.Havent scored in the last 200 minutes!

While I have no love for ESFC I do have respect for their results on the  pitch over the past 4 seasons. WSW fans would kill for that now.

OH,how the mighty have fallen.

Very UN successful end of season holiday for SmurfTown.

Two draws then 4 LOSSES in a row...scored 3 in 6 games and finished with a minus 6.

2 unimpressive points out of 18...about as far from as a star as ya can get!

HOW MANY fans will greet them at the airport?

I suppose they could hire the half dozen McArfa regular rentaCrowd.

Bobo's announcement was bound to happen

I wouldn't be surprised if Ninkovic and Wilkinson announce their retirement as well. Wilkinson is 38 in August while Ninkovic is 38 in December. I can't see them doing another season at that age. Then again, Diamanti is currently 38 and still playing so who knows.

Rats off a sinking ship.

Pat Wood to Glory

Talbot to City

Two players who are quite good,...SmURFTOWN  have a lot of work to do to build a squad for next season.
