Germany are the first country to qualify

You gotta tip the hat to them, over the last 50 years they have been so consistent.

Russia banned.

Not that I disagree with the decision,  but the WC is now officially cooked. This was going to be the last one with 32 teams as well, right?

Didn’t that get sacked now they’re talking about a WC every 2 years?

Only talking so far. Almost as crazy as Putin.

The expansion to 48 teams will start in the 2026 World Cup

I can't find any clear information about whether the bid for WCs every two years will include 32 or 48 teams

On top of the famous bid selection in 2010 to award it Qatar and turning a blind eye to the shifty stuff around the whole construction of the event. Good thing the Socceroos are boycotting this one

See last series of knockout matches coming up, Scotland v Ukraine, the jocks must be wondering "why us?", they're onto a loser with the neutrals here.

Also Russia v Poland. Has FIFA's action against Russia resulted in Poland going through to the next play off?

Nothing official on Poland's path to qualification yet

Logically you would think the side that finished behind Russia in their original group would be fair, just like in the Olympics when a athlete is relieved of his medal position for drug cheating, bump up the next one in line.

Scotland v Ukraine has been postponed until June.

Poland have been given a bye to the next round of qualifying after Russia was expelled.

Wow. Maybe they can organise a mini tournament with the Socceroos when we get knocked out.

Just looked at the stats. Italy had 66% possession, 32 shots to 4, 285 passes in the opposition half while North Macedonia had 227 completed passes total. North Macedonia had an xG of 0.18 (the winning goal was 0.03) to Italy's 1.96.

This does put a smile on my face  :meep:

If we somehow make it, our group will be France, Denmark & Tunisia.

Japan, and NZ if they make it, get Spain & Germany. :ninja:

England, USA & Iran and the final spot being the Euro playoff which is Scotland vs Ukraine and then the winner vs Wales:woah:

Australia is s*** creek. We would get the second toughest group

NZ currently are in the toughest group. Officially, the Group of Death. Hard for Japan to get out as well

Any group is the group of death for Australia regardless of who else is in it :cheeky:

Not a bad draw for England, but would prefer to avoid the home nations games and all the chew that brings. If Scotland then non stop we are fighting underdogs and everyone loves us listen to our bagpipes we have the best fans in the world aren’t we brilliant bullshyte, if Wales it means Robbie Savage getting more air time :bad: Seen in the Euros that no game against Scotland or Wales is easy, it’s like a EPL derby game.

I think everyone would prefer Australia in their group tbh,  nailed on 3 points.

Oh, and good to see Italy being shite again, I said the success they had in the Euros was not sustainable and I was proved right :good:

What a boring draw for us. Last time our group was France, Denmark, and Peru. This time it’s a playoff against Peru, then France, Denmark, and Tunisia.

Half the fun of Australia going to a World Cup is getting to play against new and interesting teams in competitive matches. If we qualify (we won’t) then our only new matchup is Tunisia.

is Arnold just a decent club coach and should be nowhere near an international set up, or have the players selected in the games not performed to the best of their abilities?

probably a bit of both I think, plus the opposition have prepared better and have seized the moment with more determination
