  • Sydney Derby To Open Season 2016/17

    mack

The new A-League season will open for the Wanderers with the Sydney Derby on Saturday the 8th of October at ANZ Stadium.

The competition proper kicks off with Brisbane vs Melbourne Victory on Friday the 7th of October, with Wellington vs Melbourne City preceding the Derby on Saturday, and Perth vs Central Coast on after. Newcastle vs Adelaide ends the round.

Western Sydney will face their grand final opponents, Adelaide United, in the first away match of the campaign, on Friday the 14th in Adelaide. The first A-League match for the Wanderers at the Sydney Olympic Showground will be in round 3 against the Newcastle Jets on Sunday the 23rd. An interesting quirk of the draw and the Wellington home fixtures means that both games against Wellington (Rounds 11 & 18) will be played in Auckland & New Plymouth respectively.

New Years Day will see the Wanderers play Perth at ANZ Stadium while a "community" round match will take place against Newcastle at Campbelltown stadium on the 22nd of January. The season ends with an away game against Adelaide United on the 15th of April, with the finals to take place between the 21st of April & Sunday the 7th of May for the Grand Final.

I assumed you had a membership.

Why don't you try ringing the club and seeing what the story is with the RBB one game memberships? I would guess that something is going on with FFA and ensuring security for us crazy out of control hooligans, but maybe they are going to go back on sale in another way?? Maybe if they realise the RBB isn't going to be as big as first thought because they aren't allowed to sell one-off memberships then they will make more tickets in the section next to RBB?

Any plans like that you might find out over the phone.

RBB memberships have not sold out.

I am hoping they don't try and isolate the active section off with the rest of the stadium otherwise we are going to see empty seats within the RBB next Saturday.

Could be a couple of surprises in our starting 11 for the Derby.  :ninja:

    Ronaldinho starting?

I had a look now and a lot of sections are now no longer showing. So hopefully it is sold out sections, no Ticketek profit tacics and the pax is really that high.

Awesome news.Bulut last minute winner then we'll see something never seen before in any sport :)

scores then drives a monster truck into the away fans bay?

    i can dig it.

he will do it stone cold Steve Austin style

    Any update on PAX?

Still a bit mystified how it jumped from mid 20's to early 30's. The stadium member theory is out the window so not sure...

I dont buy in this whole Pax theory, one time, I bought tickets at the gate for bulldogs v dragons game and the pax read 59k and i thought there is going to be a massive crowd but only 32k showed up.

Also, i bought semi finals tickets between bulldogs and Parramatta in 07 where the the pax read 72k but inly 50k showed up.

So Im not really sure what PAX means if the figures of PAX and Crowd attendence is a lot different.

PAX in Rugby League (where we don't analyse it) and PAX for WSW (where we do) is completely different.

Maybe but I bought a couple of tickets for my dad and uncle at the tickektek outlet at Westfield sydney and asked him what does Pax means and he said they don't mean number of tickets sold and nothing to do with it, he said its numerical representation of the barcode, its basically something the human eye can recognise and if the type it into the ticketing system it gives them various info about the barcode used mainly on event days to see if a barcode has been used, to stop people copying one ticket and it working over and over again.

I guarantee we are isolated and it ****s the atmosphere up. Name a way that FFA/Football administration can ruin the game and they will do it.

it's unusual for Popa to spring surprises , except when he's in ACL rotation mode which is not the case at the moment. Only one I really recall is Alessi on Del Piero.

Perhaps Bandiera at left back , Cornthwaite in midfield to screen our shaky defence perhaps and give height at set pieces, Cole to start ? Santa to start ?

It will be a very sad day if they do this. Surely they can't do manage to do this.

    my starting XI

    Redmayne,

    Neville, Borda, Cornthwaite, Clisby

    Dimas, Lustica

    Nico, Nichols, Jumpei

    Bulut

    reserves

Pinatares, Baccus or Melling, Santa, Tyson, Aspro

Bandiera may already be in camp for the u19s NT when the derby is on.

If the camp won't have started Popa could put Scott in for Santa.

heard someone say that Scott is better than Blackwood and that would upset Arnie!

Towards the end of last season we had a starting 11 which surprised neither us nor the opposition. This year we signed no obvious stand out performers, but opted for depth instead. A few weeks ago JT said in an interview with a Melbourne radio station how happy the club is with what they've recruited.

Hence "surprises" should not be seen as surprises, but merely as an expression of the recruitment approach that was taken. As long as it gives the coaching group more flexibility and options, and as long as it makes it more difficult for the opposition to play against us.

    Roll on, project hope.

Remember the days when a "one match membership" used to be called a "ticket"?

lol the one match membership thing is pretty ridiculous i think the idea of the 5 match membership is great though but a pretty obvious thing to do
Dong forget, the reason why there are "1 match memberships" is that is the only way you can get a ticket into the active section. This is per FFA stipulation but I just hope th club doesn't add this to our membership numbers.

Opening up the RBB is good. There is plenty of passengers and no shows now.

Before members only in RBB, there used to be 5 bays of active. Last couple seasons only three, but if we're honest more like 2 and a half with so many emptybseats for many matches.

Just remember that the RBB was undersold the last few years & the RBB stopped looking full after Season 1 when they locked off the Northern Terrace from the rest of the stadium.

Bit ridiculous that the only way to sell tickets in the RBB is to sell "memberships" even if they are only 1 game. Unfortunately this is the only way around the new FFA rules introduced a few seasons ago. Really hope they don't add those to our membership totals.

Yes, forgot about that. Even more reason this is great.

Shabow to start and assist and score in front of the RBB, run over and complain to someone that they're in his seat.
