  • Record Loss For Record Crowd

    mack

    0-4.

That's the report. The Wanderers don't deserve anything more than that. Abysmal performance. Worst ever loss for the club, coming in a Derby were 60,000+ people showed up.

    Not good enough at all.

Been keeping a low profile last few days...Saturday night hurt, hurt bad.

A few things. First off, enough:

    Maritime Device Fixation

    RBB Hate

    Hate on Players & Popa

    Bagging the early leavers

It was what it was...a pretty ordinary night. That's football FFS. Hell, sometimes life kicks you in the nuts even worse than what we saw in front of over 60K fans (Yes...60,000+ men women and children who came to see a regular season round of wogball at Sydney's Olympic stadium). It doesn't just sting that loss, that night. It aches, it wounds, it scars. But it is football.

It's not going to be how we carry ourselves when we win is how we will be judged. It'll be how we are when we lose. The derby was a low point, make no mistake. However let's not sink to the lows we see in other clubs. For all the negativity about that match, has there been anything like that ridiculous crisis meeting held at the smurfs a few seasons ago between the management and the Cove in their post-Cyrillic meltdown? Are we as pissant as the Reds who have been thumped 6-0 in a GF and gone belly up, relying on the FFA to save us? Have we churned and burned owners like the Jets? Have we refused to support the club because of shonky Indonesian backers like the Roar? Have we had money and big names come into the club like the Heart and still won SFA?

We mourn the loss, post-mortem the result, but never, ever let the bad results define our response. We get back up, we support the club, the players, our brothers and sisters in the terraces active or not.

    We are Wanderers...never forget that.

PS: No to ANZ, No to Lawn Bar

    :good:

    Thanks Boro.

My heart bled post-match, but over that same heart is a tattoo of the WSW crest. I can't not be behind the club, no matter the results, the people on the pitch, the folk who stand or sit beside me on the terraces, in the stands. I know we have our faults, we're not perfect. But this is a family, a community, and we have to stand up now and keep putting in whatever we bring to this joint experience, otherwise all those chants, all these words mean fÅck all to the power of nought over the square root of bugger all.

I would rather watch another horrid loss with my WSW kin than celebrate a million wins with the smurfs.

I do like your words Manfred, but enough of the jokes!

Stats might have shown the game to be roughly 50-50 but they sat and didn't press much after 2-0 and allowed us possession.

That first 30 minutes we were absolute shite - repeatedly losing the ball, zero control of the game and utterly disjointed. Esfc weren't much better so it stayed 0-0. But that 30 min was as bad as I have seen us in terms of general play since maybe the touch up we got from city away two seasons ago or maybe the Adelaide away game when topor got sent off. To me it was that bad.

Things did improve and there were some good passages if play at 0-2.

But that first 30 was hideous and I hope behind closed doors popa confronted the players with this and kept the rose coloured glasses version for the presser only.

Why is it all the players fault , the coach has stated on quite a few occasions he is more than happy with the squad he recruited.

Churchillian speeches won't help , maybe the Law of Averages will help in upcoming derbies.

Just read an article where popa is stating as he does every ******* season that he doesn't expect the squad to be at their best anytime soon and they'll be better through the second half of the season.

Every god damn time. For once I'd like to actually be prepared and start with a bang.

It's the players that are playing on the field...no one else.I know a lot of people absolutely revere popa, and given the clubs historic rise it is mostly deserved, but in our last 4 major competitive games we have conceded 15 goals.4 against the Roar(a win),3 against Adelaide in the GF(a loss),4 against Melb City( a loss),4 against the smurfs ( a loss).Something isn't right with the defence, you could throw in the 5 conceded against Wellington, and that makes 20 goals against us in five games. The players are the ones on the field and have to be accountable for what is dished up.

No the coach is ultimately accountable for team performance everybody knows that , that's why they are paid the big bucks and some come and go.

The players didn't recruit themselves , they don't plan the mental motivational and physical preparation , tactics ,plan attacking or defensive  set pieces or pre-match mind games ( we don't believe in that sort of thing ) . Last year we had much better players than ESFC but didn't win a derby. And yes agree ,every year we seems to start underdone drop critical points and have to play catchup - why ?

Anyway , hopefully  the season does start next Friday.

The players must have some sort of intelligence to understand and implement the tactics, attacking or defensive, set piece plays, the requirements for physical and mental preparation and participation in the top league and the ability to understand what the f##k the coach is talking about. The PLAYERS are the ones that implement whatever tactics or motivation the coaches and management decide upon.:))

Not about big speeches - that wasn't what I meant. I mean confront and hold people accountable (from the coaching staff down to the players) - tactics, technical issues, positioning and effort.

meh not sure if its been mentioned already but pretty sure we lost 2 and drew 1 in our first 3 last year....so you know #poppaout #foldtheclub

We did but to be fair, none of those games were as horrendous as that second half. We were desperately unlucky in Rd 3 against ESFC last year for instance. We can't say that about Saturday night.

True - I'm like everyone else I HATE losing to those ****wits but I also remember our capitulation against the Nix - we've played like busted arseholes plenty, but my point was we've struggled early before and managed to turn it around...Adelaide proved you can be stone motherless last and still prevail
