Even the subs mods have taken a few shots at them in amongst it. Majority of comments saying anything positive at all really are getting downvoted to hell lol. Dont pay much attention to Reddit. Its swamped with jobless university students with more opinions than brains (not being funny, they did a demographic strawpoll about 12 months back) Right now the SFC conteingent on there is particularly salty over the fact Wanderers form has seen them pushed back down the pecking order. Victory fans have been particularly snarky the last few days as well for some reason... No idea why There was a victory fan on one particular topic on sunday saying he wasnt bitter, despite writing a very bitter break down of the game as he saw it. All 4 responses to his comment magically had -25 votes, meaning he almost definitely paid for bots to downvote. EmMac, Sithslayer1991, matty and 4 others 3 4

That sub is anti WSW and has been for years. There's rarely any ground given for decent performances by the Wanderers, and if there is, it's given very begrudgingly. Its like a high school clique in there. Most of the negativity towards the club and supporters is started by SFC supporters in my opinion and they love to bring up RBB hoodlum behaviour.... ah it's just clicked, they're the Dutton equivalent: when things are too quiet and there's been too little bagging of the Wanderers, someone will start a topic where WSW (cough *unions* cough) will some how become the pinata. mack, sonar, Upthehill and 1 other 4

Self important 18 year old boys tend to be like that Donot let them settle too far into the saddle all the way up there on their high horse. They are still the only club in the league where the supporters have stabbed some one. EmMac 1

Wanderers Men's First Grade Assistant Coach - Andrew Christiansen, has accepted an Assistant Coach role at FC Tulsa (Who are based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in the USL Championship, the second tier of the American soccer pyramid.) I've heard many good things about him - good luck to him! A loss for Wanderers, for sure. Keep in mind too that he was in charge of our NPL Men's side when we were performing well at the start of last season. And their performance then dropped office, after he moved up to the Men's A-League side. Edinburgh, EmMac, MathyouWSW and 3 others 6

SBW Posted April 28 Posted April 28 From the Financial Review West Sydney Wanderers also boast one of the largest fan bases, but lost $7 million in the year to June 2023 and a further $5.7 million the previous year. The Wanderers’ losses were offset by $6.47 million worth of shareholders’ money pumped into the club over that same 24-month period. The club is lucky to have wealthy supporters like smallgoods billionaire Paul Lederer in its corner. Lederer ranks 79th on the Financial Review Rich List with a fortune worth $1.9 billion. But even rich businessmen have their limits. 102megan 1

I think Victory lost $10m (dont quote me) in the last financial year. Paul01 and Sithslayer1991 2
SBW Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Melbourne Victory pulls the biggest crowds in the league but lost $9.8 million in 2024 and $7.57 million in 2023. Perth Glory fans discovered that the hard way in July 2023, when the club went into receivership and its owner of the previous 15 years, mining entrepreneur Tony Sage, handed over the club’s A-League licence to the competition’s governing body, the Australian Professional Leagues (APL). The Glory were the original prototype upon which the modern A-League clubs like Melbourne Victory were based; a mainstream “franchise” whose identity was not based around a migrant community, the Glory pulled the biggest crowds in the nation around the turn of the millennium and won multiple championships. But it wasn’t enough.

Not for the lack of trying but key decisions have backfired and so we are here. Every team is cutting back. Its also unfortunately why we as the fan base tolerated Lederer because of the money he was pumping into the club even though in terms of managing the club he is one of the big contributing factors to the clubs failure to make finals. When you compare to say the Backries at least Lederer was putting money in, guy just didn't know how to run a successful football.

I think this way of pumping money into A-L teams is pretty much dead. I know AL clubs are looking to take advantage of the transfer market but this was something they should have went on since the creation of the A-League. NRL clubs and AFL clubs are now buying assets like shopping centres, hotels and pubs, to generate revenue from that, and also have that bit of security as well that if they're about to go broke or whatever, they can have these assets to fall back on as a form of security. unfortunately none of the AL clubs have this capacity unless the billionaire owners are willing to go down this route which I can't see them doing.
mack Posted April 28 Author Posted April 28 Every time the A-League earned more money, the clubs kept spending it because the owners were okay with putting more money in themselves. The problem is when the owners decide they can't or become unable to keep doing so. Example, Serepisos in Wellington who ruined himself financially in his business dealings to the point he got defrauded by a scammer because he was using the last of his cash to try and get a massive loan to stay afloat. Or the Chinese guy at Newcastle who got caught in the middle of the diplomatic failures and couldn't get his cash out of the country to pay for the club.

CaptainJess Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Glad to see Panta won the member's vote He was my choice. It would have been easy to go for Milanovic or Sapsford, but Panta has grabbed his opportunity with both hands this season and run with it. He's also bought into that old school WSW mentality that's been missing for a few years. Can't fault his passion and enthusiasm, and he's really stepped up in terms of leadership this year. Well deserved. StringerBellend, andypk, pseudonym and 11 others 14
