If Milanovic and Mata are leaving at the end of the season, it's effectively another re-build whether we keep Staj or not Might as well keep Staj if he can work alongside the owners

Milanovic is obviously a critical player this season. 102megan and StringerBellend 2
immortalshogun Posted April 12 Posted April 12 I dont see a massive rebuild coming in the off season. The contracts given to Panta, Thomas and Gerbsach seem to suggest that there’s a long term plan. I doubt the club will get rid of Staj regardless of our final position this season. We’ve become more stable and we’re playing the football we’ve been asking for since Popovic left so at the very least he gets passing marks for turning the shitshow around from Rudan and co StringerBellend, Carns, BoyFromTheWest and 2 others 5

If we don't make the finals from here then it will be a Rudan style **** show collapse. Ie of he doesn't make the finals then we haven't turned anything around really
StringerBellend Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Live ladder Sydney are equal with us, I don't think Talay is for the exit

StringerBellend Posted April 13 Posted April 13 If I had to be critical of him for the last game. He left the subs very late and we looked spent. It worked I guess but for a bit there it looked like or was going to be 1 1 without some Thomas heroics it would have been. matty 1

It's a fine dividing line between keeping tired players on the field or disrupting the on field balance. Too many times in the past I have seen Wanderers and other teams falter due to the disruption. Last night we seemed to find extra legs. Edinburgh, Smoggy, StringerBellend and 3 others 6

But we rode our kick for a bit there. While I am at it. No Mata at all. Are they keeping him fit for the big corporate dinner event? What Staj has got right is he's binned the endless pissing about at the back. Even when we play it short there is purpose to draw them out then hit. I dig it. WU had a high line and space in behind was huge those long balls to Sapsford killed em every time Edinburgh, Sithslayer1991, Smoggy and 2 others 5
Sithslayer1991 Posted April 14 Posted April 14 With 1 more win Staj will better what Rudan achieved with a more stacked team. Its on course for the best season since popa left. I don't know how many people stayed for the post match interview with Staj we finally got some answers regarding his team picks. He singled out Simmons that in training he has been doing really well in normal circumstances he would be in his team. But because of how well the first 11 is playing he hasn't been able to put Simmons into his match day squad. Its the same with our defensive pairing both Gersbach and Staj mentioned Bonetig and Panta as having raised their levels, that Staj has confidence in them now that he challenged both to start leading the backline. Staj responded to Harper's question regarding Panta and Staj mentioned Panta has risen to that leadership role and because he gets fired up over every block and last ditch tackle it spreads amongst the team. I mean you have Milanovic doing last ditch clearances and getting chest bumps from the defense. Last bit I thought worth mentioning was Hammond. Where he played well against Perth with his first 90 minutes and was rewarded with a start again but against Victory it wasn't the same and Milanovic took his place back. Staj has been complimentary of the squad how stacked it actually is and there competition for places all over the park and it makes it difficult to make everyone happy but he looks to have settled on his 11 heading into the finals but hasn't closed the door on anyone coming in. If anyone drops in performance he will make changes to the squad. Smoggy, StringerBellend, Unlimited and 6 others 9

No questions asked about him and no mention from Staj because he wasn't asked, he was more focused on the younger members of the squad. Personally I think Mata is off the bench when we need a win or control in midfield. Because this one against Western United was more a game management he chose to wait and then put on Hammond and Al-Taay to run it out Edinburgh, Smoggy and BoyFromTheWest 3
