  • 1.0 At APIA

    mack

The Western Sydney Wanderers completed their pre-pre-season preparation with another solid but not exceptional 1-0 win, this time against APIA at Leichardt Oval tonight.

An in-swinging corner was headed in by Topor-Stanley in the 3rd minute and it proved to be the only goal of the game. The first half squad consisted of Covic, Cole, Topor (who took the captaincy armband), La Rocca, Pasalic (on trial), Lo, Trifiro, Appiah & Kuzmanovski (on trial).

Young prospect Marty Lo was given ample time to impress, and put in a solid power of work in both a defensive & attacking midfield role. As the Wanderers did not list as being on trial, this perhaps indicates that he has signed a contract with either the youth league team or as a youth first team player. Having impressed on the flanks, Steve Kuzmanovski was deployed as a striker this time around and put in a solid shift as a lone target man.

The Wanderers dominated the match, with their opponents making little headway. The defensive partnership of Topor-Stanley & La Rocca looks like the go-to combination for the Wanderers upcoming FFA Cup & Asian Champions League clashes.

The second half saw the introductions of Hamil, Aspor (trial) Fofanah, Bouzanis, Poljak, Saba & Golec. Saba once again impressed with his ability to dribbled through multiple defenders, while Golec took a knock late on but pulled through to the end of the match.

Despite there being more planes passing overhead than goals, the work-out would likely have pleased manager Tony Popovic, another clean-sheet despite the squad rotation with new playmaker Saba coming along nicely.

The Wanderers next match is the first ever FFA Cup match contested by the club, as they fly to Adelaide to take on South Australian NPL club Adelaide City at the Marsden Sports Complex on Tuesday the 12th of August with an EST kick-off time of 8pm.

Spira operation was necessary clean up rather than structural & he was there but walking with the aid of metal crutches (3/4 normal size) if you know what I mean.

I'm told that the little blue pills overcome the issue of 3/4 size crutches.

On that note I'd better leave.

Thoughts on the actual match? (missed it due to work), kinda concerned with how underwhelming our pre-season has been so far.

Really hoping the Troisi deals come through to give us a bit more of an edge in front of goal.

So did APIA have a bunch of old wogs standing there shouting "ammazzalo!" (Kill him) , every time they couldn't get the ball off our guys? Lol agh the memories.....

I didn't notice any of that. But the ground announcer actually got every ethnic names pronunciation right. No repeat of "pole-jack" from Campbeltown.

You're looking at it wrong. The question you should be asking is did he get all the anglo names right?

I even noticed one or a couple of the security guards going down then rising up with us in the 'Unite as One' chant.. I had chuckle.. haha.

there was a fair bit of "encouragement" coming from the crowd before that happened - good on them for caving in obliging

also how good was the echo on "west"

No worries Goat!  An absolute pleasure!  Hope you got there in one piece.

Ironically, & frustratingly, I never made it to Leichhardt Oval last night.  At 11am yesterday morning at work, I was asked "Are you going to tonight's meeting from 5:30pm - 8:00pm?"  Me: "What meeting? I have somewhere to be tonight, that I'd planned to take my 3.5 y.o. son to."   :xmad:  :nono:

I can handle having to miss the match for work, but try explaining to a 3.5 y.o. why daddy didn't keep his promise... Extra trip required today for chocolate cake, & Maccas choc thick shake & sundae!

    That echo was great.

I must have been standing in a rubbish spot as the rbb sounded flat. Really enjoyed pa pa paranoia though

I think we were both slowly putting the pieces of the puzzle together until the topic of the forum inevitably came up. Chanced another encounter with you and Megan on the way out of the stadium, good to put some faces to some names  :drinks:

How low were some of those planes flying over the ground? I was worried we were one NTS clearance away from an MH17 moment.
