  • Alberto & Bridge Deliver Three Points For Christmas

    mack

A comfortable 2-0 win for the Wanderers against Newcastle at Parramatta Stadium saw the Wanderers keep first place in the A-League for Christmas.

The first goal came minutes before half time through Alberto Aguilar, Scott Jamieson launched a free kick from the right wing deep to the back post, Aguilar rose completely unmarked to knock a header into the pitch and towards goal. Jets keeper Mark Birighitti made a horribly mess, spilling the ball over the goal line to open the scoring.

Western Sydney had full control of the match and sealed the three points in the 70th minute. Dario Vidosic fired a shot that Birighitti palmed away, with a rebound from Vidosic falling to Bridge, he worked space and shot past the keeper with a crisp finish.

Newcastle had few chances, no-one bar David Carney providing any sort of threat to the league leaders, who have gone 5 clear of Brisbane at the top of the A-League.

I thought Fred put in a good shift, he ran his ass off to shut down the defence whenever they were playing it around at the back. He butchered that chance but made a great run for that shot he had that's been mentioned. I thought that was probably his best effort this season.

Im keeping the faith with Pio, although I'm starting to feel like one of those guys with a Sandwhich board on going on about how Jesus will return and the rapture is coming next week. Then still believing it when another week goes by and it doesn't happen

The strange thing is he looks so strong on the ball when he's not in position to shoot, when he is in position it's like he rushes things. Serious confidence issue?
I just feel he just needs to score one decent goal (that isn't given to him on a platter) & things will change! Goal scoring is this guys bread & butter, yet he is struggling to find the back of the net. For me, as long as the team is performing, we are scoring & we get the 3 points every week then we shouldn't be overly concerned.

Popa saying we won't see the best of him for 4/5 matches is just a way on not putting too much pressure on him. The last thing we need is him putting too much pressure on himself to score, then he will try to take an opportunity instead of passing or try to take a shot when we should look at retaining possession. I still think we can get more out of him in terms of goal output.

He had a couple of shots deflected the other night. On a better the day they'll deflect in

Correction: I don't believe any longer that Pio is the kind of player who is going to put 15 goals away. I am not questioning his work rate though.

His opportunity to shine will come in the big games against Smurf FC, City, Roar and VIC in the next couple of months. I hope her performs then.

On marquee wages, working hard on its own doesn't really cut it though, does it?

What is great of course is that the rest of our attacking line is killing it, so it's hard to complain too much.

Mate, you were brilliant. Don't worry about him.

I couldn't believe you did that job on your own. I sit in the Eastern Stand and you didn't miss a beat.

    Sincerely thankful for your efforts.

Awesome stuff Nick, one of my favourite parts of the day is when the pub just erupts without warning and next thing there's a ******* mosh pit and the drums and Dale Cavese are so loud you can't even talk to the person next to you.
