  • Jean-Paul de Marigny Departs Wanderers

    mack

Jean-Paul de Marigny was today left the Western Sydney Wanderers, just 9 months after he ascended to the head coach role following the sacking of Markus Babbel.

The Wanderers released a very short statement today on their website: "Western Sydney Wanderers FC have today parted ways with head coach Jean-Paul de Marigny. The club thanks Jean-Paul for his efforts and wishes him success in the future. The club will make an announcement in the coming days on a replacement coach."

It is unclear at this early stage if the move was a sacking, or if de Marigny left the club of his own accord.

Jean-Paul de Marigny's time at the club did result in a small uplift in the clubs performances, and he was able to keep the Wanderers from losing a Sydney derby this season. His final statistics in charge were 5 wins, 4 draws and 3 losses from 12 games, his best results coming in February as he lead the Wanderers to a 1-0 derby win, after smashing Adelaide United 5-2.

In the post Lockdown period however, the 3-1 loss to Perth and the 5-3 loss to Western United culled the small hopes of playing finals football, and a 2-1 win over Melbourne Victory closed out the season.

The Wanderers have not announced a replacement at this time. Whoever it is will have their work cut out for them, as the club will be dealing with the loss of our best player Mitch Duke, having signed nothing but youth player upgrades at this point in the pre-season and with a massive cut in the salary cap looming.

Wanderers Chairman, at the time of de Marigny's appointment in July said “with JP at the helm and our squad working hard at our fantastic Centre of Football, we eagerly anticipate the return of the Hyundai A-League and watching our group take the steps required to make our many members and fans proud.”

Lederer's words ring hollow with the erstwhile head coach leaving just three months after his 'permanent' appointment.

Judging from Ray Gatts conversations on Twitter the rumoured manager is:

    - Considered a big name manager

    - Australian

    - Has previously coached in the A-League

I can only really think of Graham Arnold or maybe Kosmina?

Has Pappas previously coached in the A-League?

First it's supposed to be Robinson according to Gatty and Taurus on Twitter, now Gatty says could be GA, which I find hard to believe. Actually I find both hard to believe but I guess we'll find out soon.

Yeah I also saw Taurus heavily discussing Robinson to many people on Twitter. Always seems to be very knowledgeable in these situations.

I’m no doubt in the minority of minorities, but I’d take Arnold. It’s a mercenary game, and so long as the old whinger brings success I’ll be happy to have him on board.

With Arnie, finals win within 2 years.

It happens, Steve Bruce has managed Sunderland and Newcastle for example.

Not going to happen though so move on :D

Robinson is a good coach but ideally I'd rather he stay where he is ATM.

The last thing Robinson needs is to go into a toxic club and do things the Lederer way

So you were happy with JPdM?

it was a rubbish move to appoint him “permanently” before the end of season, but he’s not the answer so It’s correcting a wrong

Robinson would be a good move, had Jets playing well, with basically somebody else’s crap squad, did it in a chaotic environment, what’s not to like, just should have happened months ago

Can we just hire an NPL coach and give him or her their big break

Spend the money on youth development and marquees

You can post my consultancy cheque in the mail

Jets were probably THE form team when the season restarted. Dirty business but I'd take him !!

For the sake of the overall league, I think pinching Robinson from the Jets is a bit of an asshole move tbh

I'm on board with hughsey here, do the right thing and find your own candidate, not steal next door's hard work.

I don't disagree....just can't see him returning to the A League at the moment

They could have fit the whole statement into a single tweet but instead they said "Club statement", attached a picture saying "Club Statement" and made me click a link.

Now I hope we steal their coach.
