Description: Sotirio is a pacey winger who has become a persistent option off the bench for the Wanderers while continuing to pick up the occasional goal and providing a threat in behind A-League defences. He lasted 6 seasons, scoring the occasional goal, but did not evolve his performances to become a consistent goal threat or good with the ball at his feet while running at defences. In an odd stroke, what became his final game at the Wanderers saw him score against the Central Coast Mariners. After that game he was effectively banished from the playing squad entirely before being released at the end of the season.

In the latest email his contract was extended to 2018/19

I can see it will be celebrated with much fanfare from the fan base

But for me?

:golecapproves:

I feel like he has shown less than others we have let go. But, we see 5/10% of a player, maybe his training, attitude etc behind closed doors is the reason. Also, probably ona cheap wage like Baccus.

I'm still a fan of his. Play him in some matches to press other teams at the start of the game. I like the way he chases everything. Helps us with winning the ball back. Hopefully he develops more in other areas.

Exactly - he's a very good squadie - has speed to come on and cause headaches to tiring defences.

It's unlikeky he'll be able to improve enough to be a regular in our side, but you never know. It's not like we have any wingers in our top squad (Lustica & nico are makeshit wingers).

Smart signing - go well young fella

Not only that but the ball boys standing near the fences could have done with some practice as most struggled to get it that far out with their shots.

I hope his wage consists of a maccas voucher and a packet of gum cause he isn't worth any more than that. If our coaching staff think he's some big future star we are in real trouble.

Bloke wouldn't get a start at Hakoah.

at the game he said he'll be back in two weeks. can't come soon enough imo.

Agree, people forget how much work the kid does. Yes he probably isn't the player many had hoped but he is a player that popa loves to use. If he had any potential to be one of Australia's greatest footballers he wouldn't be playing for the Wanderers. I really hope this kid sticks around & hopefully gets a big payday in Asia one day (ala Fat Head)

that was a little....umm....condescending

Mate we have to be realistic, it's a bit like Dino do you think for a second that Popa played him for his goal scoring ability or his world class talent? No, neither was it the reason why we loved him in the stands.

I feel he can be one of those players like Bridge (not that I'm saying he is Fathead but in 5-10 years who knows) who can create a career for himself in the A-League. I just hope that it is with us rather than the merry-go-round that has been the usual for players in A-League.

Sotirio is our hope & saviour... season is over already if that's true.

DID I SAY THAT?

:angrycovic:

Sotirio is a player that can come on to do a job, you need players in your side that will sacrifice themselves for the team. I'm not saying let's have 11 Sotirio's but just saying that you can't have 11 Jumpei's. Sotirio will hopefully allow other players to flourish much like Dino allowed Shinji to be at his absolute best when he was with us.

That was the best game he has ever played in a red and black shirt. I'm not sure what popa told him or if he ate wheat bix or something he did on new years eve but when he came on I had to make sure my glasses weren't fogged up because I couldn't beleive how well he played

Watch the goal again. Just before bachus plays the pass, a poor defensive read by perth cb where he raced out of the line and left a gaping hole. It was the only error in what was a solid defensive effort by Perth.

You cant expect , and won't, be gifted goals by poor defending like that too many times in a season

Yeah but it's the A-League. We're on the same points as Perth and the teams in spots 5-8 have almost identical goal difference (-5), considering how many defensive cock ups we've given and our dire lack of scoring goals, it seems half the table suffer similar issues
