I wasn't going to say anything....

Lol - I'm not over-sensitive like that!

Although I think you added a little there. My great grandfather joined up in broken hill, but was short sighted so was never sent. Not unlikely that he would have known the son you mention.

The son who died in Gallipoli joined up in Adelaide (not sure why...but he might have been studying there perhaps?)...but yes - they might well have known each other.

I'm back in Sydney after a week and a bit away.

The swimming was lousy (red weed, freezing water and windy on the beach).

Neither of those floated my boat....but what does FMB is that I've brought back another cat!!!

I know that news will totally delight the many cat lovers here on the forums!

He's a gorgeous 17 year old fluffy, pale ginger male called Benny - who belonged to my aunt, and then my sister, but he now needs a new home.

He travelled pretty well, is confidently making himself at home, and will be gradually introduced to the rest of the herd (of 5 other cats) over coming days!  :):)

Haha!  :P

The whole family loves cats!

This only takes us up to 6!

Down from 7 two years ago, when we lost 2 in the space of 12 hours (both unrelated...and due to natural causes). :(:(

WFMB.

Young Wanderboy headed off to Shanghai today for a 6 day training camp with Stoke City.

Update:

Anyway, after 3 days of intense training, young Wanderboy last night played his first game for his academy team (which included some players from Europe and South America) vs a Stoke City team of juniors.

Unfortunately, his team lost 5-3, but he scored two of the 3 goals, playing as a CAM.

Haha!! Who'd know?

He has said it has been cold there at some of his early morning training sessions, (just above zero) although it wasn't too bad last night - only about 6 degrees and not raining, so not too bad. His first training day was a weather cultural shock - going from 30's in Sydney to between 3 - 10 degrees in Shanghai. He seems to have got used to it pretty quickly. And yes, very proud.

I only wish I could have afforded to accompany him on the trip and share the experience. Alas, it was not to be, but I'm glad he has been able to have this experience.

Is this what adulting feels like? :P

Wait for your first strata meeting when they discuss people abusing the guest parking spot for so long that you lose the will to live

thats adulting

Even worse

The building is showing signs of huge structural issues, but the whole strata meeting votes to do ****all about it because it's not affecting their own apartment (yet).

1 year later, it is affecting all apartments in one corner of the bulidng, the bill is going to even more astronomical if they do any work, and the majority sit on their hands over it, and then decide to release funds for an external paint job and tell the lady in 213 to get rid of her ugly umbrella.....

Did we live in the same apartment block :)

had very similar experience with my old strata

there was some total mentalist on strata when we were dealing with structural issues

best bit was the near punch up

I just had an offer accepted on an apartment! My solicitor is reviewing the contract as we speak and and barring any issues I'm looking to exchange before the weekend hopefully.

You're only as old as you act

Congrats though, no more rent money / dead money situation, no more inspections you can do whatever the hell you want.

I finally found a shop that sells herbs & spices for a cheap price compared to the stores I have around here. Needed to get some more basil, coriander & paprika but the shops around here only had coriander, and to go to specialist shops or the big chain stores have ridiculous prices that are often $50 or more per KG (as an example, at woolies, the cheapest price for dried basil is the equivalent of $120 per kg). Aldi where I normally do my shopping only has a small variety most of the time and their pricing is marginally better when they get stock in (and didn't have what i needed this time anyway).

Found a company that is a wholesaler but just opened up a smaller quantity general public store. Got 500g of basil for $3.60 (which would have got me 30g worth from all the local stores), and was able to stock up on marjoram (which is insanely expensive locally, it's $433 per kg at woolworths), rosemary, thyme, parsley, garlic & onion powder, basil, smoked paprika. In enough amount that it should last me ages, and combined with my existing stock of oregano, coriander, cumin and various small jars of things like chilli, powdered mustard, tumeric, lemon pepper, salt & pepper. I can remake my italian herb mix, my portuguese, middle eastern and american style spice mixes.

Most of those shops in fairfield will sell 20 different types of bulk nuts, chocolates, sweets, with a selection of 70 different pickled vegetables, but not really loose spices (in bulk like that shop), they all just sell the same small packets.

Haha yeah it was only an afterthought. I just thought there might be 1 or 2 out of all of them. The Persian place near my folks old place in North parra had a good selection.

Came today. A reminder that just because something weighs a lot, doesn't mean it's also dense. :) All really good. Especially the rosemary which has a nice flowery scent in addition to the usual rosemary flavour.
