Wanderers Robbed By Inept Referee

Yeah I wasn't convinced it hit his hand either.

A game like this really kills off your enthusiasm for the league. I don't mind the odd decision going against you every now & then because the ref made the wrong choice in a split second, but if even with all this technology, all the time wastes checking, they still get it so blatantly wrong, what hope is there? I mean what's the point in competing in a league where you can just have three points thrown out the window just like that? I'm not just talking about us, but this VAR has been so farcically implemented that I'm sure the league table could look completely different without it. Which would be fine if it was getting the decisions correct, but it isn't. We're basically just watching a random simulation.

I'm sure I'll enjoy our next win, but that's the thing...normally I go to a game thinking that if we play well enough to win, we'll win, or be really unlucky to not win. Now I know we can play really well and still lose through no fault of our own (not saying that happened here, we never had a chance to find out...but we were controlling the game and should have had a pen before any of the other decisions).

I'm convinced Greg O'Rourke and the rest don't actually watch any of the games, except the big derbies that they are in the corporate boxes for.

I'm at a loss. Why has no one else questioned if the ball actually hit his hand or arm? None of the replays I've seen show a clear handball. I've seen nothing that shows the ball made contact, there is no deflection of the ball's trajectory.  So how was it a clear error that needed to be overturned? What have others seen to convince themselves there was hand and ball contact?

Couldn't agree more Ed!

4/4 of us watching at home said the same!!

Probably the only good thing to come from this game is that it was an away game. I fear the pitch would have been strewn with bottles etc if it was at home, and we would have been the centre of attention again instead of the useless officials. Then again, maybe that would have brought it to a head. Something has to.

If it had happened in a derby it wouldn’t have ended well at all. Channel 9, 7 etc would have had a field day

Indeed.

After Gillett's display at the derby I realised that we'll be playing against 12 men more often than not this season.

With FFA fighting for survival they clearly are in maintenance mode at best, their care factor for the game appears to be close to zero.

Sunday's game was shite...pure, unadulterated, elemental, utter, total fecal matter that stank like an oozing, pus-filled gangrenous bleeding haemorrhoid on the rotting carcass of a run over liverfluke infested sheep, scooped off a stretch of the Eyre Highway between Eucla and Kalgoorlie in the middle of an Australian summer when El Nino is combining with climate warming to create a festering puddle of flesh and fly-blown semi-organic goo.

Not going to blame the club or the players or Gombau.

Will blame Beath, VAR and the FFA.

It's going to take a shitload of love for the red and black to get me to ANZ this weekend. My reservoirs are getting bloody low...

In saying all of that (much of which is hard to agree with) we played absolutely shite.

I know the scoreline but none of the details as i managed to cut my finger and spent the entire time the match was on in the medical centre. Got 4 stitches. Was hoping we'd win and i could line it up on fox sports on demand and enjoy. Clearly not. :nono:

After that episode, EmMac is the only one 'who can cut it!' :xnod:

I don't think we played shite at all, every single thing in the match went against us and they still only scored one legitimate goal against us despite having the extra man for what, 50 minutes?

I agree until the send off we were the better team. After the send off the whole game changed and we cannot judge the team.

Sorry, I disagree. We offered nothing and rarely looked threatening.

That's true, but we were a man down away from home. In the circumstances to only let in one legitimate goal is actually a decent effort. Not only were we a man down, we had to take off an attacking player to shore up the defence.  Like tardotz said, we were the better team until the send off, and should have had a penalty before then, which if awarded and scored would have changed the game completely.

Yeh. Possibly.

But look at the way Victory lifted when they went a man down against us.

I was just really disappointed at any sort of fight amongst our players.  I was however impressed that Josep had used our 3 subs by the 75th minute. At least he was trying something. Popa would have made his first change in the 85th minute bringing Santa on, and then in the 92nd minute, subbed Jumpei for Sotirio. :woah:

Putting aside the VAR we were poor lets face it and that's the worry for me. Biscuit hit the bar when he was scoring those in the early weeks as an example (hows the relationship with the boss I;m wondering) and there doesn't seem to be a "go to person' that I can see when we need something special. The table doesn't lie now and knowing our luck the Nux will turn it on against us, I'm not banking those points yet.

I'm not sure that Gombau is picking our best team, rather one that works to his style. The natives will get restless soon I think if the results don't pick up. Give us a couple of ugly wins FFS, we are westies after all, we'll live with it.

Yep

Very strange he sacrificed a marquee creative player after the red card. sejudo generally needs two to mark him yet we go with sotirio and Jumpei who run up and down really quickly before losing the ball

Very much what I said at the time - as soon as Cejudo went off Adelaide knew we weren't going to try to take it to them.

Cejudo, has only been playing at 20% of what he showed in the 1st game.

I agree, but I’m not convinced he is going to show much on the bench. Much like the rest of the team we haven’t really got going since round 3.

cejudo represents our season, loads of promise in round 1 but otherwise doesn’t feel like we have started

Didn't he pick up a hand injury.

Plus no home game since Round 2.

I don’t know how anyone can complain about that performance after what we witnessed from the officials. We were away from home with 10 men. Their first goal was blatantly offside and the second one offside under the old, better rule. What do you want? A 3 goal victory?

Be nice wouldn’t it. I just don’t feel like this season has started and we are already nearly at derby 2.

 Yeah it would be!

I hear you. But it hasn't really started for us.  We've had a zillion away games and a cancelled home game. It's coming up to round 9 and we've had two home games. Not to mention that the new coach had one game, then a cancel, then probably the worst officiated match of all time.

Also, as fans we sit back and look at other teams and say "they've got to give the new man time to settle in", but when it's our club we get emotional and demanding.
