I am starting to wonder whether he suits our possession based style of play. He would probably be more effective in a counter-attacking team. Ninkovic was much more energetic this week, compared to his late cameos off the bench over the last couple of weeks. Hopefully he is close to being able to start the match against Macarthur. Borello and Layouni, wow! Can't wait for Ngbakoto to be back to see the three of them together up front. I am starting to wonder if Yengi suits being a professional athlete... zero interest in getting stuck in or working hard. scarcev Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 Well that game sums up our entire Club in 90+ minutes First half I thought we were as bad as we have looked all season (depression, we are hopeless) No hunger, no urgency, (no passion) terrible defending and impotent up top (anger). Aside from the Borello banger (glimpse of hope) we had nothing and could have went in 3 or 4 down (depression again). Second half and we looked great for the first 20 (hope again) scoring some great goals (here we go) before falling back into a heap trying to play defensively in midfield with our defensive players taken off the pitch when they came at us (hopes were up just to be let down again) and after some piss poor defending by both outside backs (anger again!) we went behind again only to be saved by our new signing (a glimmer of hope once again). You can say a lot of things about WSW but you cannot say it is a boring ride!! BoyFromTheWest, StringerBellend, Sithslayer1991 and 3 others 6
Sithslayer1991 Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 Layouni. What a debut he is exactly we have been missing in attack. A bloke that just drives in and takes players on, and Borello will be loving the extra weight off his shoulders. And can't help but think if we had Marcelo we would have won the game. Beadling didn't exactly cover himself in glory for the final 2 goals of Adelaide, they targeted him in the 2nd half because Mrcela won everything in the air. Regardless we take the point which is becoming all to normal. We are lucky that other teams are not able to put games together but we are coming to the end now and we need to start to pick up the form. 1 point above 3 teams in 5th Nix, 6th Smurfs and 7th Jets not teams that have actually covered themselves in glory and Jets and Nix are notorious for being inconsistent. Of course we need to talk about our full backs Cluer and Traore. Both have been below par in the last few weeks and never more evident than this game. This is usually the moment in past seasons Russell would come in at RB to freshen up the squad, unfortunately no Russell this time (I think next season he is predicted to come back still mid rehab) and Traore dropping off his usual consistent standard is a worry. The suspension will do Traore good to rest up but means Wilmering likely to go LB against Macarthur. Its a worry both fullbacks are struggling to back up. 7 minutes ago, hughsey said: I am starting to wonder if Yengi suits being a professional athlete... zero interest in getting stuck in or working hard. Unlike Najjarine you can actually see there is a great player there but difficult for any consistency due to injuries. I think we can see now why Rudan didn't play him against the Smurfs he isn't 100%. THEWANDERERSPOST, Potkorok and EmMac 3
scarcev Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 I know people are caning Yengi and Beadling and fair enough but for me players that are coming back into the side need to be given a couple of weeks to get going again so can excuse them for this one but Cleur and Traore were real disappointing and I think that is a result of being covered up by Marcelo who is a real baller and also them two being comfortable with no real pressure being put on them from other squad players. Traore's tackle to get sent off just showed how out of it he is at the moment a real dumb tackle to go with a real poor performance. Be good to see Wilmering given his chance in defence where he should be playing and not up the park. StringerBellend, WSWJACK, EmMac and 1 other 4

That Ibusuki goal He needed to be on him as no way Traore can take Ibusuki in the air and it is Beadlings man there is no one else that he needs to worry about, he marks Ibusuki and Traore can cover far post but there is no communication between the two and no one takes responsibility. But the big problems are Cluer and Traore its a big drop off from where they were before. THEWANDERERSPOST, JustWandering and WSWJACK 3

BoyFromTheWest Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 We actually don't have time for players who aren't properly fit going on the park. What level of 'if he can play' do we run with? 50%, 70% or what? What levels of risk are really worth it in the context of the season? We need to win but how much can we afford to risk players doing more damage or needing match fitness...? EmMac and WSWJACK 2
JustWandering Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 Interesting post game press conference with Rudan. He was unhappy with the first two goals conceded, but blames himself for the second two. He anticipated that a back three would be needed to negate the threat of Inaconda, but did not follow his gut on it. For the first goal we conceded, he was critical of Yengi for not making an angle for Traore to play out from the back, which resulted in the turnover that lead to the goal. He was glowing with his praise for Borello. It is safe to assume that Borello is our number 9 for the remainder of the season. Unlimited, BoyFromTheWest, THEWANDERERSPOST and 2 others 5
matty Posted February 21, 2023 Posted February 21, 2023 Some great insight he provided, much more than you usually get. That criticism of Yengi is huge imo. Managers don't like pointing out individuals like that normally. No surprise he got hooked. Unless Yengi has a real gritty, fighter of a character, he may struggle to play under Rudan now. I think he may get the odd opportunity here or there but mostly, I think he's gonna get the treatment. BoyFromTheWest, JustWandering and THEWANDERERSPOST 3

Zelinsky Posted February 21, 2023 Posted February 21, 2023 Had we done what the Smurfs did in the Derby at the end of the second half and go into the break with a lead, it would have greatly increased our chances to win the game. Saying that: I will not complain about an equalizer with one man down in add one time. sonar, THEWANDERERSPOST, EmMac and 1 other 4
mack Posted February 21, 2023 Author Posted February 21, 2023 Blaming Yengi for the first goal is misplaced. Traore was facing the goal-line and instead of clearing it first time he took a touch and got closed down & blocked. Trying to play out from this situation is suicidal. Yengi would have just got closed down as well, and gone back to Traore to boot it long, like he should have done the first time. 2nd goal has to be Rudan's fault, how do you coach a side to have the entire team in the box at a corner without ensuring that they can't give away a free header then a free shot at goal? That's a damning photo. Lazy, no sense of urgency, no awareness of where the player closing you down is. Terrible body position. Your one stride away from the ball. Your opponent's 8-10 yards away, you still get caught on the ball unaware of the incoming challenge. This one ain't on Yengi. mack 1
andypk Posted February 21, 2023 Posted February 21, 2023 Yengi still needs to make that run and be an option. He contributed nothing to that first half, it's not like he was too knackered. At worst Yengi would have pulled an Adelaide player wide to the touchline and opened up space, possibly opening up a longer pass. It's up to Traore's decision making process to select the correct option. At the time, I thought it was going to be put out for a throw. Traore should never have allowed an attacker to close him down given the time he had, but Calem's pass to him, to put him in that situation, was not great also. Rudan absolutely roasted Yengi from the sideline at the time. I hope Traore copped some too behind closed doors. His level has dropped considerably this season. sonar, StringerBellend, EmMac and 1 other 4
matty Posted February 22, 2023 Posted February 22, 2023 Without a wide shot, I'll go with the coach on this one. He would've been a dozen feet from Yengi looking down the line.

Tranquilo Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Usually when you score 4 goals at an away match it is a good sign but losing Marcelo has shown us how vulnerable we are at the back if we let 4 goals in. I think only against Mariners we managed to let in 3 goals and correct me if im wrong but Marcelo or Mrcela were missing and Tongyik was not up to scratch. Losing this match would of only meant 1 point less for us but pushed Adelaide higher and us lower so that last minute goal by Amor was so crucial. Lets hope we get back to our primary principles of defending strong and hopefully Amor can take some of the work of the shoulders of Borello who runs his heart out but by 70 minutes is gassed. Good central defence pair have been crucial to our goals against so far this season, lets hope they continue working together. BoyFromTheWest, nmh94, LetsPele and 1 other 4

Yep we have been solid in defence but I still feel both of our fullbacks are suspect in defence. Cleur seems to turn off sometimes while Traore gives away a ridiculous amount of free kicks in dangerous positions Tranquilo 1
