Winning a derby against a club clutching at straws to keep themselves relevant with #sydneyisksyblue hashtags, which we haven't beaten in 2.5 years in round 1....where we have never managed to win over 4 years.

    I like those odds !

Lol yeah nah, I think we're ****ed. Backline is shaky as ****.

Sick of leaving either Pirtek or Allianz absolutely gutted, so I hope can we can shake the hoodoo this season.

But whatever, it's a derby anything could happen.

Calling all Eurosnobs (o.k. I guess they won’t be reading this…) and Sports News reporters who think they can satiate our desire for football by feeding us British fare:

Below is my compilation of the all-time record home regular season attendances for these famous and much-loved British clubs, and when their record was set. We have all heard of each of them, ad nauseam I am sure, but do their fans care about or have they even heard of the Western Sydney Wanderers?

When we obliterate most of the records below in our first home game of the season this weekend, they should know that we are going to beat all but one of those fabled British records very soon! Then, hopefully, everyone will view us from a more balanced perspective…

Note that a few familiar club names are missing from the listing above as I could not find their regular season record, but none will threaten the A-League record we will set this weekend!

Insane to think they got 70000+ into goodison, obviously back before all seater

Should be good this weekend. For all the a leagues many faults, fantastic to see 60000+ for a domestic football game

What makes this more signifiant is the fact that we have these figures without any marketing of the game from the FFA. Apart from specific social media avenues that I have because I follow football. How the general public are aware of the match or the upcoming season is a mystery.

Al tickets left should be given away, same as in the State of Origin to fill he stadium.

But the fact remains we can be proud of this achievement, in light of games like Panfers V Dogs semi-final at ANZ only attracted 22k, which is piss poor..

Yeah a lot of those numbers are crazy. The one that stood out to me was Highbury, probably because I've been there. 73k! Nearly double the seating capacity of 38k when it was knocked down!

I would love to see the attendance top the NRL GF. What was it? 84K? It's possible.

It was high 83s. That's a sellout. In fact, I think it was over the official capacity somehow. They probably doctored the figure just in case we did beat it.

    Thanks echidna.

But being picky cos that's the type of guy I am - a bit tough on Arsenal playing 2 matches on 2 Oct 1954!

Thanks Edinburgh - you are all Heart(s)! You are right - the Preston visit by Arsenal was 23 April 1938... another damn error - I must be getting old!

Boro's Ayresome Park ground had an attendance record of around 54,000 i think.

In the final season there in 1995 the capacity was only 21,000!

Of course the numbers themselves will be impressive especially given this time of year and finals for the other codes but it will specifically be the Actives in football that lifts all this to another level. Even if we had half what the NRL GF had we would still be x 8 as loud despite ex Chairman Gorman trying to breed some active kulture in the shire.

There seems to be sports saturation at the moment. The womens netball, W-League and Big Bash all starting along side womens AFL. The latter will get more free to air coverage than the A-League. The one day cricket starts next Saturday too and then leads into the international cricket summer and the Big Bash.

Heart's home record is almost 48k but Tynecastle only holds about 15k these days.

So apparently my tickets are for Level 4 - never been there before. I've been on Level 6 which was... yeahhhhh, and Level 1 which was half-decent, but never Level 4

Hopefully my seats will be just perfect

Sport saturation all the time now. Every ******* sports administrator thinks that they have to grow the game and the only way to do it is to work out a way to have their sport on 365 days a year.

Cricket being the main player in that respect. They have taken it to a new level.

Never give tickets away and never discount. It means your product is 5h1t and you don't know your business. Keep prices at a reasonable price from the beginning and know your supply and demand.

Echidna, someone needs to buy you a beer for your post. No doubt Eurosnobs will tell you about the games that Messi and Ibrahimovic are playing in but never the relegation teams. There are plenty of rubbish games in the top flights of football too. Plus, eurosnobs are the most plastic of fans. A football fan always follows their local club, regardless of level.
