AFL Thread 2

There was just a screenshot posted on another website of the northern end.

Counting the crowd, there wouldn't have been more than 300 people in the shot.

Crowd will be: 10599.

It is so delicious to know that the AFL are pumping $20 million into these two clubs (Suns as well), and watching it all go down the drain.

Geez I wish our sport had that sort of money.

The only problem that I have is people are more critical of the Gold Coast team than the Midgets, Twitter was great fun especially when someone from Tasmania asked what they have to do to get a team.

It does show though that for any other match, the away team is the difference between 7000 fans and 10,000 fans.

A Melton South football coach has been sacked after getting into a brawl with a player from his own team.

The Melton South Panthers sacked their under-18.5s coach after he was involved in an altercation with one of his players during a game against Ballarat on Saturday.

The incident came on the same day as a violent on-field brawl at Darley Park, which saw the president suspended and three supporters banned. Just a day later, two off-duty police officers were forced to intervene during an altercation reportedly targeting an umpire at a junior match in Bonbeach.

Melton South senior coach Heath Pritchard said the junior coach had been dismissed on the spot with immediate effect during the game.
He said the incident occurred after the Melton South player involved and a Ballarat opponent were shown red cards and ordered from the field in the first quarter.

Mr Pritchard said there was a verbal clash between the coach and the Melton South player, followed by a physical altercation.

He said under no circumstances would the club tolerate this type of treatment of a player by a coach.

"He was dismissed there and then," he said.

Mr Pritchard said the club had spoken to the parents of the impacted player and all other under-18.5 players, and had their full support.

He said a new coach had already been appointed, and a club investigation into the incident was continuing.

Ballarat Football League operations manager Shane Anwyl said the league had been informed of the issue. He said it was an internal club matter.

On the same day, Darley Football Club was forced to suspend its president and ban three supporters in the wake of an on-field brawl, which broke out after the final siren of the senior match between the Devils and North Ballarat City.

A Darley club executive committee emergency meeting saw club president Ray Newton stood down indefinitely for a “lack of judgment” in dealing with the supporters, who were deemed responsible for initiating and escalating the incident.

None of the banned supporters were club members. Ballarat Football League is investigating.

The brawl erupted after a spectator approached the two field umpires and directed verbal abuse at them from close range as they were about to leave the field at the end of the game, which Darley won by five points.

Meanwhile, Sunday's incident is understood to have occurred during an under-13s match between Bonbeach and Frankston YCW around midday.

"A 27-year-old male has been interviewed and is assisting police with their inquiries. The investigation is ongoing," a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

Police said the victim - reportedly the umpire - was a 22-year-old male.

A spokesman from AFL South East said the league had been made aware an incident occurred and was working with both clubs to establish what happened.

"All I can confirm is that Victoria Police questioned a man in relation to the alleged incident," he said.

Footage also emerged of a brawl between players from Ballan and Carngham-Linton players during a Saturday afternoon game at Snake Valley Recreation Reserve, which is part of the Central Highlands Football League.

So angry right now.

Tim Gossage is a sports reporter here in Perth.

He was taken on by sokkahtwitter the other week for his pro AFL anti football views.

Blocked me on twitter for pointing out he'd sooner tell us what the West Coast Eagles had for lunch today than the World Cup results.

So tonight's 'play of the day' was from some random cliff diving comp overseas and his line was 'the world cup might be over but the diving is continuing'.

What a ******* maggot.

(Yesterday...….)

Another AFL brawl. Once again compared to Soccah.

How many brawls have there been at AFL matches this season? I've lost count tbh. So VICPOL, where is the Riot Squad?

Tonight in channel 10 sports news (remembering the sold out optus stadium last night).

West Coast Eagles

Fremantle Dockers

Port Adelaide

Chelsea in Perth

Richmond Tigers

It was a major story on 9 news but for some reason 10 (who have the rights remember) push the A League as far down as they can.

I think this is because the US television network CBS, the owners of 10, has stated that obtaining sports broadcast rights will be a focus for them, they want to bid for AFL and NRL rights in the future. I think there is an article about it.

Unfortunately AFL is big in the inner west, as more and more Bondi types move over here. They all go for  swans though hardly ever see anything GWS related.

Yes it is sad when you go into inner west pubs and see AFL everywhere. But probably if it gets a bit too popular for trendy hipsters they'll start to look for something less mainstream and we'll get a bunch of people into the a-league because "it's, like, real, y'know brah"

EDIT: Actually, nah, they'll never get it.

Nah, it's already happened, those types are not going to Sydney FC as much any more because it's not like it was.
