You know what...this just dawned on me. We've obviously seen knock out deciders live, but never in my football filled life have I seen a two leg knockout match that is being played in front of me. Seeing a return leg of my club where we could potentially see a nail biting end will be a fantastic experience. Hopefully we push through!

I am sure the boys will be up for this game and I hope they get a positive result but it certainly wont be easy. They first have to get their heads around having lost the GF, a nightmare trip to Hiroshima on two flights, playing away from home against a good opponent on 3 days after the GF. I am starting to sound like a whingeing Mariners supporter. Come on you Wanderers keep the dream alive.

A lot of that grand final 11 probably won't be starting anyway. We will have a lot of fresh players on the field like Mullen, Golec, Beauchamp, Kubi, Trifiro etc. Gives us a a shot of getting a result.

I was at this game which was the UEFA Cup semi over two legs, about as exciting as it gets!

Coming back from 3 - 0 down to win 4-2 (4-3 on agg) with a final goal on the 89th minute (couldn't have gone to extra time because Steaua would have won on away goals rule).

I've only ever been to WCQ with Australia (Argentina, Iran, Uruguay x 2)... never to a club one though.

Would happily take a draw, or if we do lose an away goal would be nice.

    Woo! can't wait for this!

Last 2 game threads of the season.

    Going to miss it.

Wait, so if we get into the quarter finals - does that count as 'next season' or...? :P

A 1-1 draw would be an acceptable result. Then a 0 - 0 would see us through to the QF's next week.

How do the away goals work over the 2 legs?

If aggregate is equal after 90mins on the 2nd leg, the team with more away goals wins. If it goes to extra time, away goals don't count and it will fall down to penalties if aggregate remains equal.

Also a 2-1 loss tonight wouldn't be a disaster as a 1-0 win at home would see us through also. Could deff do with an away goal tonight.

In a way yes. Player contracts run until May 31st I believe and we submit a new squad list to the AFC before the Quarter Finals (should we progress). So we would have two different teams compete (in a way) either side of the end of season break.

we need to get that crucial away goal, mariners played decent against these guys, i see this team as a step up from Kawasaki, so technically well structured and fast paced, but in football especially the crucial stages its important to put away the chances created!

Great, so win this round and pre season starts a few weeks later :good: Great for people like me who don't cope so well with the football starvation during the off season.

Least it is world cup year also :good:

I actually missed all of those matches. I grew up in Europe and the country I lived in wouldn't know what a knock out qualifier is if it wasn't for TV broadcasts...I would've killed to have the chance to watch the 2005 WCQ v Uruguay though. Just by watching the replay you can tell how big that match was!

IF we can get through this round, we may actually be at a slight advantage. As the other Asian teams have to fit in travel between their regular season games our guys may have the chance to focus solely on the ACL.

Rather this than sit and fester over the GF for months on end. Perfect antidote for players and fans alike. Midweek knock-out games are the absolute hammer. You know you're supporting a team that is going places when you have midweek games to look forward to.
