  • Wanderers Lose To Mariners

    mack

An early goal to Josh Rose saw the Central Coast Mariners win 1-0 in Gosford tonight.

A cheap turnover by Romeo Castelen gave Anthony Kalik the opportunity to slice the Wanderers defence open with a throughball that found fullback Rose, and he made no mistake slotting past Dean Bouzanis at the near post.

The rest of the game was the usual Wanderers style this season, getting into the opposition area before going back to the keeper and losing possession, or firing long balls to the likes of Bulut & Castelen, who were monstered by the giant central defensive pairing of Bosnar & Anderson.

On occasion the Wanderers did manage to fire at goal, their shooting was wayward, half off target and none that ever really gave Liam Reddy a hard time. One of the few times they did trouble the Mariners keeper, he came flying out of his area to meet Alusine Fofanah, and managed to block the shot with his head.

A neat encapsulation of the Wanderers display came late on when Anthony Golec had a chance to make an overlapping run, called for the ball, but inexplicably stopped as the pass was delivered, finding himself unable to make up the ground on the well placed pass and seeing it run out for a goal kick.

Two events that stood out apart from the action itself were the deubt of Shayne D'Cunha as a late substitute for Sam Gallaway, and Ante Covic managing to get himself booked while sitting on the bench.

Western Sydney's next match is against Adelaide United at Parramatta Stadium on Saturday the 17th of April, kick-off at 5:30pm.

We don't have another game for a week, yet no NTS or Takahagi and Juric stays on the bench. FMD Popa.

I think Popa would like those players to have an extended break to bring them back fresh for two important ACL games,

Didn't watch the game, listen to it on the radio.. Seemed pretty even, just couldn't finish...

NTS has limped through the last 2 games. He needs a 'kin break man !!

Fair enough, but the other two?

In fairness NTS has been playing with nagging injuries but has been forced to play because we've had no one else fit. I'd take Bulut over Juric on form. But agree that Takahagi could have been given minutes. I'm guessing he was rested because he's still not hit full fitness since signing. Frustrating to not take away all 3 points. Had a plethora of chances

    Can i call you Dave?

Dave, its about ensuring we are fresh for the ACL games.

We have no way of making it to the finals, better to save some players for ACL i think.

    Thanks.

Montgomery clearly talkin ****about bulut after to everyone including aspro.

Popa needs to lock up young Aspro to a long contract, all the kids did ok...so hard to win games with our poor midfield

DuCuhna (I'm sure my spelling is wrong) has some serious pace. Fofanah was good but just a little rusty touch wise - has a big future.

So Takahagi was rested for, and Tomi was kept on the bench to save them for a game in Parra in ten days? That'll do me. It wasn't like they played in Seoul mid week..... Edited by Dalison

Takahagi was running on empty his last game and didn't play well at all, better we play the kids and save Tanaka and co for ACL

You know what? This won't be popular - but I say **** this years ACL. The best thing that can happen is that we get bounced out in the group stage so we can have a proper pre-season for next year.

Great point about Takahagi, I forgot how buggered he was last game. Agree with everything else said. The last thing you would want is a key player getting a muscle fatigue related injury. Loving that Popa gave so many young boys a run

we need to be patient with these kids. these kids need more time on the field because once they mature they'll be ripping it

I hear what you're saying but in terms of australian football and our legacy we need to have a go at the ACL. Otherwise it will be dismissed by history as a rare fluke ie Porto, Marseille etc
