The club aren’t selling young players by the bucket load, nor are they breeding them in the first team in bulk. Then on the other side of the equation, we aren’t recruiting quality senior level players/foreigners. Most clubs prioritise one or the other, we seem to do neither.

We're sort of heading into the unknown this off season, We are just not sure which direction the club is going to go, only thing that remains the same is that our club culture has somewhat remained the same since Lederer has taken over.

So now the season is over and it looks like we are stuck with Rudan, when does the club start announcing players that are leaving or resigning? I noticed most other clubs out of the semis (and some even in the semis) have already been announcing them?

Will be interesting to see how many stick around now both players and staff. I hear there has already been 2 casualties in regards to the staff

They usually wait until after the Grand Final.

Contracts usually run until the end of May so sometimes they do it then.

First order of off season business should be evaluating the purpose and direction of the academy. As much as it’s become a source of humour, the construction of playing fields is its only output.

There’s little alignment between the academy and first team recruitment. Young players are just plugging holes. The fact several young players made up the bulk of the side against vuck was a happy coincidence rather than a strategic decision.

First order is are we progressing? (We are not)

What needs to change, for us to progress?

I think it's quite clear which direction the club is going.

Do you think we could turn back the clock for Tom Aldred and give him fresh start along side Marcelo, we could get 1 good season out of him and at his best he was a rock at the back for Roar

If he doesn't count as a foreigner (he's been at the Roar 5 years now) it might be a decent signing. If Marcelo stays as well then you have a clear pairing as first choice, then Bonetig/Barrie (who would also play NPL together), with Beadling as the bench utility defender & midfielder. Releasing Grdic & Tongyik & only bringing in Aldred would mean you gain a main squad roster spot as well.

He's obtained Australian citizenship. So, he wouldn't take up a visa spot.

On past experiences no...players come here and usually go backwards.

He's 33 so he's not going to get better. Going here he'll either get injured for a lengthy period or just loose any ability he may have left.

JPDM and Ray Younis were leaving I heard a while ago.

JPDM is definitely gone end of season.

As far as Tom Aldred goes, our current captain and mainstay CB is almost ready for his superannuation to be released. At 33, I'd be surprised if Tom is even toilet trained...

At 33 years old for Tom Alfred is prime time for a centre back , a change of club can be good

If we had a CB like him who knows we could finish as high as 7th

You seriously are easily pleased

I don't mean to be rude. But if Marco taking us to the dizzying heights of 7th and a past it League One centre back floats your boat then cool.

Mate you are rude I make an observation that Aldred might be an opportunity and all that comes from you is some smart area lightweight comment and never with any substance etswa

Yeah Stringer, you need less rude and more constructive posts.

I'll preface this by saying everyone is always welcome here, but to be honest you've been pretty sharp with people in here too. Even going to far as to accuse a certain poster of spreading silly 3rd hand rumours. That same individual was someone who previously regularly had the CEO of the club over to their house for dinner, a pretty well informed person.

This is off season on the WSW forum. Specifically the squad development thread turns into a complete crap shoot for 5 months. Absolutely nothing is achieved and we refuse to be serious. I encourage you to join in the stupidity and not resist it. It's an excellent way to pass one of the worlds longest off seasons :D
