  • Roar Gifted Three Points In Brisbane

    mack

Despite a chance to go 5 points clear on top of the A-League, the Wanderers elected instead to hand one of their title rivals all three points with a display of utter incompetence.

Brisbane opened the scoring 4 minutes in after absorbing pressure for the opening exchanges. Jamie McClaren continued his scoring run, Hingert broke down the right flank with Sotirio failing to track back, his cut back found Maclaren and his attempt squeezed underneath Liam Reddy as Brendan Hamill got caught ball watching. Thankfully for the visitor's, even with the Roar dominating the play, they went into the break just a goal down.

It took all the way until the 74th minute before the Wanderers even looked like scoring, as Tony Popovic elected not to make early subs, his first one, Santalab was put through on goal by Mitch Nichols, the striker being cut down by Michael Theo the Roar keeper, and despite the clear goal scoring opportunity only being punished with a yellow card. Andreu stepped up for the penalty shot and managed to beat Theo down the middle.

4 minutes later it looked like the Wanderers were going to storm clear at the top as Romeo Castelen waltzed through a sea of Roar defenders, a heavy touch was beneficial in that it kept the ball out of a desperate lunge by Bowles, before his shot fired under Theo.

In the 81st minute the Wanderers lead, and their grip on the Premiership had evaporated. Another awful attempt at defending by Hamill saw Maclaren ghost in unmarked at the near post to slice it past Reddy. Petratos rubbed salt into the wounds as Henrique took advantage of an abysmal sideways attempted pass from Dimas, playing in Petratos who slotted it home for 3-2.

A score of 4-2 looked more likely that 3-3, and the introduction of Matt Sim & Kearyn Baccus far too late did nothing to change the situation. Substitutions coming far too late has become something of a trend for Tony Popovic, and the ongoing selection of the useless Jaushua Sotirio is more and more baffling after every week where he fails to perform. A game that could have cemented a spot at the top of the table was not the time to experiment with Mebrahtu playing upfront in his first start ever, nor was it the time to throw Matt Sim into the squad. A massive improvement is needed for the club to have any hope of winning either of the trophies on offer at the end of the season.

Doubt Aspro was injured as popa said both had "put their hand up to play". As you say, don't recall him ever letting anyone day in the few games he's played.

as for pio, don't be frustrated with popa, it's pio who we should be frustrated with - he doesn't give a stuff and it's his attitude that is leading to him not being selected - it pisses me off he is entitled to continue getting paid when he clearly doesn't care

did you write "pio" when you were meant to write "Saba" or something?

The guy moved his family here, he obviously has committed to playing in this league

Are people reading the cancer and panic on Facebook and Twitter and then just voicing their shït on here?

If you read this thread, it makes no fücking sense. You just get everyone swooping in "Saying I can't believe everyone is saying X, Y and Z"

When no one has implied or even mentioned X, Y and Z

Moving your family doesn't translate to a commitment to the team or to training at his best

It's only a comittment to moving countries to collect $750k.

there's only 1 reason a player isn't picked - it's the player himself - not the coach - from the first time he got dropped to the bench he's obviously refused to fight his back into the team

look at gol - worked his arse off to start his first aleague game in 3 years - that's comittment (regardless of his performance).

He's a fraud and doesn't deserve his money

I cant wait til wellington stun adelaide and we stay top.

Newcastle often trouble us. We get a win there... u reckon provided we are full strength we bring adelaide back to earth at a heaving wanderland on 19th.

"I'm getting paid $750k a year, so I'm going to move country - and bring my entire family with me, and then do jack all and just lounge at the beach with them all day or something"

Now, if that's actually true, then that's shameful. But I wouldn't bring my family to another country if I was going to slack off and go "LOLOLOL look at these idiots paying me all this money - let's go to the beach and chill". I'm sure he has a sense of shame, and the idea that if he fails here, he's almost certainly not going to get a look in at any decent club ever again

I'm fedrico I get paid 750 grand for nothing. I'm at Bondi right with the kids I've earned more money in one year then you have in twenty the end

Rather we wasted 750 k on Ronaldinho least we'd make a profit from shirt sales

I think we still got a chance at the premiers plate.

    United's last 5 games: City (H), Wanderers (A), Mariners (H), Smurfs (A), City (A)
    Wanderers's last 5 games: Jets (A), Adelaide (H), Victory (A), Mariners (H), Phoenix (A)
    Roar's last 5 games: Victory (H), City (A), Smurfs (H), Jets (H), Victory (A).

United's last 5 could be tough, I think City could put pressure on them a bit as they will try for an ACL spot, Playing us away from Coopers Stadium might be an advantage to us. Hopefully our normal starting XI is back by then and we take home the 3 points.

We should have a good run home, the only games I would worry about is Adelaide and Victory. As mentioned before, hopefully we get our full squad back and get into full force.

Roar's last 5 isn't so good, Victory, City and maybe the Smurfs might put some pressure on them as they will fight for the 3rd place spot to for the ACL qualification.

Personally, if we come 2nd I'd be happy for that cause it gives an ACL spot, if we drop to 3rd I'll be pissed as we've been a top contender this whole season and if we slip down that far it will be disappointing.

Thing is with this Pio moving family halfway around the world showing how dedicated he is and all that.......

He prob made a fair wedge from his Sampdoria and Steau days if he was smart enough, he has been a journey man for most of his career (still only 31) and I would assume he still owns a nice family home somewhere in Europe with a nice car parked up in his garage. It is not as if he will have sold the lot and emigrated here to start a brand new life with his family.

He is getting a very nice family holiday that will be paying off his mortgage nicely on his house in Europe for doing **** all. His kids will be back to the same school by May / June after a years holiday and Pio will have a much heavier wallet to take back with him for doing **** all and some nice family photos at some Australian beauty spots for the folks back home.

Anyone else watching Fornaroli absolutely roast ESFC? Oh for a f***ing striker. And as for Adelaide. Yeah, they are flying. Can't see us taking the plate. But in a finals shoot out we're definitely a chance.

Haha. Not im a Wsw fan seems as though when a players boots get to big we ship them off when they ask for more money I think we are too much about profits and not about the football and that's what's come back to haunt us

And will cost us the gf...

Would we be in the same boat if araon mooy that greedy goblin was here

If I want to watch a team play a whole season for nothing, only for the real champion to win a 3 or 4 week finals campaign, I watch the NRL.

    I don't give a f*ck about the A-League GF.

In my opinion of the Wanderers don't finish first after 27 weeks then the finals mean nothing.

10 thousand of us travelled to Brisbane for a GF two years ago. It's disingenuous to say we don't care about it. I don't think these comments would still be around if we won either of our two GFs.

If we win the Premier's plate, I will be thrilled. If we win the GF, I will also be thrilled. My preference? To win both!

Only saw the last 20 minutes, and I wish I hadn't.

The NTS haters may want to ponder how many of those three goals we would have conceded with him on the pitch. He holds the shop together in more than one way.

Dimas saved his worst pass of the season for this game. Tragic.

Did Santa get his 5th yellow and is missing in Newcastle? If so I really hope that Bridgey and Dario will be back.

We now need to win in Newie, Wellington, at home against CCM and possibly ADE to secure the title.

Those first 3 games are important but the most important is against Adelaide. If we don't beat them they could win every game and stay ahead of us. So we need to decide our own fate and not leave it up to chance.

Shades of season 1 away to ccm.
