  • Wanderers Smash Glory, Reclaim 2nd Spot

    mack

The Western Sydney Wanderers have turned their AFC Champions League form toward the A-League by trouncing Perth Glory 3-0, in a win that reclaimed second position and the vital ACL Direct Entry slot that comes with finishing the season there.

The triple treat was kicked off minutes before half-time when Jerome Polenz scored the goal the Wanderers dominance of the half deserved. His second goal in the A-League was a solo effort that began by running at Clisby, then when Jacob Burns blocked his initial shot, it bobbled favourably for the headbanded fullback, as he juggled with the knee before firing a shot that the Glory keeper couldn't keep out.

Mark Bridge secured the three point for Western Sydney on the hour mark. A turnover in midfield gave ample opportunity to run at Davies the Perth right fullback, and in typical Bridge fashion he cut inside, faked the young defender into giving him room for a shot, which he duly smashed to the far post, giving Duncan no chance to make a save.

Crowd favourite Tomi Juric put the sealer on the event with 13 to play, Ono & Hersi combining to put the right winger into the penalty box, before Hersi laid it off to Juric. One touch put the ball into the right spot for a powerful strike into the top right corner.

Perth were as dismal as their 10th place on the A-League ladder suggests, the Wanderers barely getting out of second gear yet still comfortably beating their opponents. With a full week break before the vital clash against the Mariners in Gosford, victory at Parramatta should set the stage for the Wanderers to claim second spot, as they now lead the competition for that place by 2 goals with three games to play.

The Wanderers next match is against the Central Coast Mariners on Saturday the 29th of March, in Gosford, kick-off 5:30PM.

I really hope we can sort this **** out with the RBB and the club. We have such a good thing going and I'd hate to see it spoiled by a lack of communication and misunderstanding.

I too, was perplexed by seeing so many riot squad members there today. After the match, I saw at least a dozen of them in one group standing around outside the Eastern Stand doing nothing. Just chatting, laughing etc.... and at least 4 of them were playing on their phones, not talking.

Kudos to the Eastern Stand just after half time starting up their own chant when it was clear things were wrong in the RBB. (no one knew what was happening there and why there was silence). I knew something was awry when I could hear the capo's talking to them, but couldn't make out what was being said.

I saw probably 30-40 RBB members walk out and was disheartened to see this.

We should be the diamond of the A-League. Let's not go down the same path as Victory. Please.

For the good of the club we all love.

Get rid of the RBB amd you get rid of a major asset that draws people to football.

All of a sudden you have an atmosphere more on par with NRL or AFL

Are these bans true or just rumours. How do the cops ban someone so quickly ie during a game. Don't they have to prove to the club what they are accusing someone of, surely they don't just take fans out the back and then ban them ?

Ps its funny how international media love us andbsee the Wanderers as a great success story. We promote not only Western Sydney but Australia to the rest of the world

It is in our own country the media, authorities and some sections of society dont see us as an asset. Backwards.

May I add further, I so looked forward to this season knowing we had sold over 16000 season tickets, with a sold out north terrace and hoping for a rocking RBB.

It's been quite a let down to see so many empty seats there every week.

It's also quite depressing seeing those people who sit in the outer bays just sit there.

I swear there is a sign up the back of the terrace that says "Active Bay" or something like that.

If you buy a ticket in the RBB, be ******* active you wankers.

They are a law unto themselves. Proper legal processes are irrelevant according to the dear old nsw police force. When it comes to shoot outs in the street, people get smashed out in the Cross, they are MIA. But standing around trying to intimidate people at a football match is an awesome use of tax payer's $.

I heard they issued a 6 month ban to someone that was standing in the wrong bay. Is this for real???????

I loved how post game, as they were announcing the wander and kick, about 6-8 police line themselves up between the goals and fence, yeap guys, stand there like heros and stop people from pitch invading, until, um, they let us on the field.

this state must be in a fantastic financial position if the police can waste resources like this each game, either that or they are just ****ed

All true, and I can give you names. And yes that is exactly how it works, many people who are banned are informed on the spot of their punishment, some have to wait for a letter to be delivered by Hatamoto, it is completely arbitrary.

The person being banned for 'moshing' happened at halftime in front of hundreds of people.

Also these are the people we are dealing with (the very same ones who are counting their big pile of money as we speak):

Hey guys I'm new to the forums with a couple of questions, I apologise in advance if any of my words have been played out before me, and if need be, feel free to point me towards the right thread for reference.

First off congrats to every one, the players and supporters tonight.. cheerin.

Now I'm not a member and have only recently started coming to the games, having a chance to participate in the active area on Wednesday night I was keen on hopefully securing a spot tonight. Obviously no chance because it's members only, but there's all those empty seats the last couple of games in the active area with the exception of the derby.

Are these empties already reserved for you members and then you can go ahead and secure a seat but nobody is doing so? Or they have taken them but not shown up? I'm a little confused, and slightly upset because we're so keen on singing our lungs out with the active area, but can't. I know being a member ensures this, and will do the first chance I get, but at the moment it just seems like their is just this big gap in the active area with the potential to be filled, but it's not.

Again, I'm a noob, apologies for anything that may seem obvious. Win or Lose, active area or not, we'll always be there, however any help to answer my questions would be much appreciated.

    Thanks guys.

I also thought the "Paranoia" chant was particularly appropriate today.

I genuinely try and give police officers the benefit of the doubt, but when you see one holding his gun as though he is some cowboy, with a bunch of young kids just jumping up and down having a good time, I lose all respect. There are some brilliant officers, but it's a shame we get all those who have massive egos and are getting their strings pulled by higher powers.

What is happening now is such a mess. Core boys all walked out today, poor attendance with Northern Terrace looking emptier each week, victimisation by the cops .....

Not sure how we resolve it ...

loved how Paranoia came back, was confused at the start of the half where the RBB were not doing anything, not happy about the police but i didnt know about it till after the game and had a lot of fun we dominated them and i am happy Bridge scored

The club needs to do something.

If this keeps happening, the north end will be empty because of bans due to people:

    throwing confetti

    throwing rubbish

    jumping on chairs

    throwing water/beer

    swearing

    leaning on fence

I'm getting over all this. You DON'T start chanting when the capos are talking on the mega. Its a lack of respect. I bet these were the same people that started chanting and doing the poznan during the protest a couple weeks back. They are also probably the same ones that don't chant all game and only when it suits them. Probably the same ones that all run to the front of the bay just before full time so they can say they high fived Polenz.

I don't understand the 8 riot cops showing up at full time to stand in front of the RBB. What was the point of that? Did they think we were going to rush and stab our own players ffs?

The Players should have told the cops to get farked and out of the way because they want to celebrate with their fans.

They can't do that otherwise they will get a 12 month ban and can't play until the end of next season.

This has been happening for a number of weeks. It is so that the security cameras at the entrance gates can get a clear view of everyone's face as they enter, in case any trouble ensues later on where they need to identify culprits.

get the names of all of the coppers standing around and ask them to come together for a group photo... send it to all members of parliament, the police commissioner and ask for them to be sacked for being a bunch of lazy p.r.i.c.k.s.

The issues with the police started somewhat at the start of the game. 2 police officers stood right in the middle of the Northgate banner. i was to the side, and thought this seemed a bit awkward from them. Admittedly the police were in line with the bay corridors but when they were asked to move so that people could stand behind the banner they refused. A few people asked the police if it was ok if they moved down a little further then they obliged.

Then the alleged incident of the banning, which if it's true is ridiculous. lets be honest we all stand and or sit in different bays to those we are allocated, it's hardly a "crime" worthy of a 6 month ban. Also moshing too hard or celebrating too hard is not a legally strong position to take, and the police know this.

Are the police specifically looking to intimidate fans? it sometimes comes across as if they do.

The response from the capo ws really good, and i think that the moment these events of bannings occur we need to alert all active supporters that this has occured. The capos need to then take direction and tell the active supporters what we will be doing. My opinion is don't ask a group of 1000 people what they want to do as you won't get an understandable response. have a pre set action which we all must do, then either continue cheering or we move out if the incident warrants it. (keep in mind the police may stop people from moving out of bays as they did during the protest game recently.. The RBB also needs a tactic to deal with this, and a tactic that is supported by the club, ie people leaving in bays or in groups of 50, every 5 minutes).

Personally i thought the actions of the east and west stands was out of line. If the capo is talking, don't get all high and mighty and start cheering. We are silent for a reason, don't drown out your active supporters because you don't like what you see, or assume something. The RBB is an active supporter group there to cheer on the team, but we also have strong opinions on specific issues. non active supporters need to comprehend these issues as they are at times, legitimate ie Security using unnecessary force on fans, police using silly bans to create disharmony and other issues.

The non active supporters need to support the RBB, and this starts with following the capo. if there is no cheering, there is no cheering for a bloody good reason. Show some love to those who create the atmosphere and don't be quick to go agro on those who wear your same colours.

Ultimately it is this disunity whch the police and Hatamoto want. Don't play into the hands of those who promote this disunity.

You don't remember Round 1 in Gosford where there were 500 riot cops filming us and surrounding us at the pub?

It's what sparked a lot of stuff and the fan forum at the Albion with redhead gave her impassioned speech.

    Moe this is the reality

    - The RBB was sold out before the season began

    - What we discovered quickly was that the RBB was undersold so there was at least 2-3 bays that were pretty much empty

    - Then you have a small percentage of RBB members who are unable to attend and/or can't give their membership to others to go in there place (problem we are having all over the stadium)

    - Then you also have a percentage that have been banned by hatamoto/police/FFA who can't actually contest their bans

    - The FFA have decided the RBB to be members only (home and away) so people who are not members can't be apart of the RBB (unless you bought a acl ticket)

The result of all this is that the RBB is technically sold out but would be lucky to be 2/3 full if that!! Next season the capacity should double with rail seating (see article on the front page if the website) which should see more seating be available.
