  • Golec Guns Down Guangzhou

    mack

The Western Sydney Wanderers will take a 1-0 aggregate lead into the second leg of their Asian Champions League quarter final after a remarkable match against ACL Champions Guangzhou Evergrande were beaten by a goal to Antony Golec, followed by finishing the match with just 9 men on the park.

Golec claimed the winner on the hour mark, cutting inside from the left flank before delivering a low cross that beat everyone including the Chinese goalkeeper, who was frozen by the run of Tomi Juric, before nestling into the bottom right hand corner.

Evergrande saw two red cards and their World Cup winning manager Marcello Lippi may face further sanctions as chaos reigned following the dismissals of Zeng Linpeng in the 88th minute and Gao Lin in the 90th.

Shannon Cole has the best chance of the first half, after Haliti stormed down the wing he put a wonderful cross that beat the leaping Evergrande defence, only to see Cole glance the header wide when he should have put his side in front. Liao Lisheng smacked a ball moments before the break that Covic turned away.

The second half was all Wanderers from the opening stages, Tomi Juric menacing the diminutive Chinese defenders and being the cause of the goal from Golec despite not getting a touch. Vitor Saba made his Parramatta Stadium debut and made an immediate impact, gliding around his opponents and drawing numerous fouls, while also showing an appetite for the hard defensive that he will require playing in the A-League for Western Sydney.

Chaos reigned in the last moments of the game, as Linpeng smashed La Rocca with an elbow and was shown a straight red, followed minutes later by compatriot Lin who kicked Vitor Saba in the face and quickly joined Linpeng for an early shower. At that point Lippi stormed onto the pitch and confronted the referee, who eventually regained control, denied Juric a penalty in the final seconds then ended the match.

The result means any draw or win for the Wanderers will see them through to the Semi-Final, while even a 2-1 loss would be enough to progress on away goals.

The Wanderers next match is Leg 2 of the Asian Champions League quarter finals against Guangzhou Evergrande, in China, played on Wednesday the 27th of August.

WTF was that smell in 55? It can't be possible that a person made it.

I did notice security get a bit nervous when most people started putting their scarves over their faces.

I have sources that indicate some ****img **** was ripping fart bombs before and then during the game. Smell made it all the way into the middle of 56. Wanted to die. Felt i was suffocating.

Why the **** would someone let off a fart bomb at a football match particularly on your own terrace?

just watching the replay and to me both were 100% red cards.

for the first red, sasa ognenovski made the point that the referee waited too long to blow the whistle when la rocca jumped on the players back, but you can't swing an arm and hit someone in the head.

for the second red, there's a replay from in front that shows gao lin lift his right foot (saba was rolling towards him) but then he clearly deliberately moved his foot towards saba's head and his boot made contact with saba's face. gao lin could have just jumped out of the way or lifted his right foot up out of the way, but he moved it toward saba's head.

the referee clearly got both reds correct imo.

Am lolling hard, strong google translate game.

But guys gotta realize Instagram is the only western social media platform that has not been banned. Hence the shitstorm of butthurt GZ fans on wanderers players. The asian comments by some WSW fans could be done less with too.

I was much more offended & distressed by that, than any maritime device I've ever been in the presence of.

I believe that this could explain a lot...I purchased a bottle of this  (still have it) a few years ago, and it smells like pure ****..I actually thought of deploying it in enemy pubs, however its so offensive that I could be charged with acts of terrorism.

I'm presuming this is what I could smell in 57, I just assumed it was the drain. It was a pungent aroma, plenty of hang time on it, stung the nostrils in an eye watering manner. I spilt my guts in the first half thanks to a Harry's tiger and vacated the seats surrounding me but that stench humbled my efforts

    I so shouldn't post this...but...

I work with ESL students...and have to correct this ^^^^  sort of scrambled expression often. Where Google Translate has been employed, the kids can get into a lot of difficulty.

Stuck up on the staff room wall is this little gem,  which had its creator ( a Yr 9 Taiwanese boy), his friends and myself greatly amused when I pointed out the errors of this translation.

"Red kangaroo is very large, reddish-brown short hair, pants and jacket colours are brown limbs. Small claws, stout forelimbs suit jumping hind legs..."

Love these kids...welcome to my  life....
