  • Henrique Keeps Wanderers Anchored To Bottom

    mack

A dubious early penalty converted by Henrique on a stormy night in Parramatta kept the Wanderers winless and adrift in last place on the A-League ladder.

The gift penalty from Kris Griffiths-Jones was slotted down the middle by the diminutive forward, while the Wanderers were content to dink the ball around the edges of the penalty box in an apparent refusal to shoot at goal, a refusal which cost them a chance of getting even a point from the game.

Seyi Adeleke was adjudged to have brought down a Roar player in the box and Henrique made no mistake to open the scoring in the 4th minute. The Roar were the better in the first half but couldn't add to their lead.

The Wanderers took control of the match in the second stanza, but a seeming obsession with playing on the flanks instead of taking shooting opportunities began to frustrate the 10,000 strong crowd who braved the atrocious conditions.

Nikita Rukavytsya had the best and final chance for the home side, as he finally took advantage of some neat play to blast a shot that cannoned off the woodwork and went out for a goal kick.

The Wanderers next match is against Adelaide United in Adelaide on Saturday the 6th of December.

so basically write the year off up until Morocco for a trophy destined for Europe or South America....that makes no sense....

The ACL took us 2 games into the league , sacrifice to your hearts content ,rotate away ,  but there will be no pointy end this year if we continue in the vain we are going...we are 1/3 into the year and are playing with no confidence , no stability and no wins

club world cup should be seen as a bonus , we should not be sacrafising 1/3rd of the league for it....

    So, what?

If winning the ACL means sacrificing 5 god damn years, then so be it. We had a chance only given once to an Australian and they didn't take it. We did because we were willing to sacrifice local pride to see the bigger picture months in advance.

We'll win a grand final soon enough. Maybe not this season or next, but within 10 years we'll be in another grand final or two. You can't say the same about the Asian Champions League. It might be another 20 years before another Aussie club makes the final, and you can be sure they'll sacrifice a decade of local success if it meant having that gold star on their badge.

Plus, we're in a salary capped league after being top 2 the last 2 seasons. We can't stay top forever.

    Similar to Aston Villa.

I am looking forward to this WSW Club and Academy being set up, plus drinking beer watching the FIFA Club Championship. I agree with people having the right to complain etc its helps with the sadness when we lose, however 3 years ago we didn't have an opportunity to cheer on WSW so we have to take a step back and see the bigger picture of development of the Football culture which is the embodiment of Western Sydney.

When I was in the UK, and watched Aston Villa Vs Arsenal, the stadium was packed, the fans stayed until the end and watch AV equalised at Villa park in the dying minutes of the game. AV fans appear to very similar to WSW fans, same demographics etc, game day for Villa fans is a chance to catch up with fellow fans, march to the stadium and live football. An entire stadium singing the same chants, it really takes your breath away.

    So heads up and COYW.

When Juric or Santa don't play we don't have any physicality or height in the front 4.

Bridge, Saba, Castelen, Haliti. (All skinny and fairly weak)

Putting in crosses to them is at times very useless, especially in the air where we have no height advantage.

We have to play with a target man given the formation we use.

How bad was KGJ seriously something needs to be done as the quality of refereeing is not good enough.

Very frustrating performance and it feels like if we sscore the flood gates could open, really need a bit of luck as we're creating opportunities but to scared to shoot *****.

Baccus looked good and was decent despite a few poor turn overs when trying to beat his man to create space.

The season is still long and we can make top six so no need to panic as the comp isn't won in round .

I'm hoping we can lift for adelaide as they will be a true test and a win against them will lift spirits for Morocc.

If someone wants to lleave early for a legitimate reason then fair enough but for someone to say they have had enough and go well don't come back ***** go watch GWS matches and be home by half time to find your wife cheating on you with a carrottop rugby league player who is on bail for sexually assaulting a panda bear.

Also were are the Wanderdogs *****, you tease us with the add in the match day program but don't show up.

Let's not get into this slanging match with people like scouseroar. Remember Brisbane supporters had a Mulvey Out sign a few years ago when they were slightly struggling in the league. Now they've sacked their Grand Final winning coach after a few sub par games. Sydney FC supporters threw a beer glass at the head of their coach, walked out on team before half-time during a game and acted like a bunch of spoil brats in front of the TV cameras. This is when they were 6th or 7th and in touch with leading pack. Imagine if they were bottom of the table with no wins after 8 games!

If we can get through this with dignity and not overreact like other supporters, it will show who the better people are. It will pay off in the long run. Remember things can change very easily. You always get to see more about a person when they are losing, rather than when they are winning.

great post...especially the last line..these times are a test of our character...and character is what defines a person..

Extremely important question. Where are the Wanderdogs?

I'm starting to believe that wanderdogs are just a myth. I wanna try one so bad

Last time I had a Wanderdog was the Great Flood of 2014 Versus Adelaide (you know, the one where Andy Paskelides had to bend his old buggered Hellenic arse and do some water dislodging work with a hoarding). The stand behind the southern end was almost blown away in the gale and my W-Dog was almost terminally damaged by wind and rain...but I still ate it.

Overall we are playing some good football. Creating chances but poor finishing has resulted in poor results.

Defensively we are fine and letting in 1 goal a game max over last 5 games is good.

In midfield Larocca and Poljak are doing exactly the same as they have last few years. Bacchus looked very good last night.

The big difference is in front 3rd. Ono is a massive loss and Saba is really struggling despite glimpses of class.

Castalen is quality but defensively weak when compared to Hersi's work rate and tracking / closing down.

Juric scores but again is lazy when we transition when in possession from back to front. His passing and letting go of the ball to late delays the attack.

Ruka, Bridge etc again need to do more but im happy with Bridgey for now.

We are not closing down up front like we used to. Brisbane exploited that very easily and got out all too easy. Saba is lazy, end of. The work Haliti did last night was massive. Just because Saba wont run. He was farked after 25 mins.

One more important thing. If you plan to put a young player on the bench and have no farking intention to play him then what's the point. Sotirio should have come on last night.

popa's subs were pointless IMO after Ruka came on. Why sub a right back and holding mid when you are 1 down at home with 15 mins to play?? We lost that midfield in our best spell when Bacchus came off. He was playing forward at pace and finding Cole and Castalen and Saba on the right in 2nd half. When Larocca came on it was clunky and slow as he had to get into the game.

Why sub a right back? Isnt Cole better going forward that Adeleke? Why not sub him and play Cole LB? all a bit starnge IMO

We should have won many games this season. Alas we have not. I found last night quite entertaining as I got to see a side of the crowd and players that we have not seen as yet. Fun times indeed.

To all the dip shits who booed our team last night. shame on you all. Disgraceful. We will learn more from our losses this year than many of our wins. But no more boo's ya plonkers.

39 fouls blown in that match. Almost 1 every 2 min, or 1 every 90 seconds the ball was in play.

Kgj is a game killing flop.

Seriously this referee murdered the game in the first 30 minutes I thought he was going to swallow the whistle when he went to breathe in. Terrible control of the game is an understatement. Makes it hard for the players.

I think the most disappointing thing from last night is that we didn't test the goalkeeper enough, a goalkeeper signed... from the 6TH DIVISION OF ENGLISH FOOTBALL

His rating on FIFA would probably be like 30.

This... the keeper was off his line most of the game. We need a midfielder that will take a shot here and there.

People still insisting the boos were aimed at the players? Jesus **** were any of them even at the ground? Only way for it to have been any clearer it was at the refs was if KGJ's mum was burning his effigy behind the dugouts. :nono:

Having said that, there comes a time where we as a fan base need to stop blaming quality of officials for our players not performing. Let's face it, standards will only improve once refs are fully professional and paid as much as mid-tier players. We wouldn't expect players to be top notch week in and out if they trained and played around a day job would we?

Remember in our first season when we finished top of the league. breaking records along the way, the haters said "wait until you start loosing and we will see".

Remember in our second season where we continued to break records and make back to back finals, and the haters still said "wait until you start loosing and we will see".

And remember the acl run, where we broke numerous world records, and still the haters said "wait until you start loosing and we will see".

Well that time is here, and what are you going to do? sit at home and watch the game, or go to the stadium, support the team and give everything you have, so we can turn around and say "we are loosing, but we are still miles better than your club".

I honestly believe our recruitment has been shite for this season we have lost too much quality and its showing....why didnt we sign players like marcos flores for his attack and go for a gun striker like berisha (ignore his antics and look

at his skill) the way we are playing is totally shithouse with no variation or ideas in attack. It was so frustrating to see the last pass from midfield go to waste with either too much ball hogging or no shots from the edge of the area. I knew the game was up when we resorted to topor having to chip a long ball up front. Adeleke is a terrible defender and has cost us 2 goals in 2 games, he gets caught flatfooted too often. I dont know why we dont spread the ball wide quickly and move down the wings...too much passing into traffic last night in the middle which put us under pressure all the time. Our formation is clearly not working when the right players are not there and when we made breaks last night there was no one on the back stick to finish the chances. I honestly cant believe we have pissed away 9 pts at home that is a farking disgraceful effort against average opposition...none of these teams dominated us. What's the excuse? We should of beaten all 4 sides.

Ill await for everyone to ask me to go support esfc after those comments but honestly its dissapointing to see us fumble about on the pitch especially as asian champions.

Apologies for daring to have an opinion on the **** we have dished up in 3 of the 4 home games...3pts from a possible 12. Come on you have to admit it is highly dissapointing to take away 3pts from 4 home games. **** having a say on the fans forum in case it upsets anyone!

For your info too, i've managed liverpool fc on fifa 15 winning the league in my first season and qualifying for the champions league on ps3 ;p

It was only last month ! Can't we live off it for another few weeks at least ! Perspective plesse !

We'll cherish it forever however we need to restore our fear factor and soon....every single away team so far this season has huddled into a group at wanderland before kick off and come away with a result...we were clearly the better team in 3 of the 4 games however have nothing to show for it.

Opinions are like bum holes...as they say. Which is fine.

But as frustrated supporters everyone will feel they know best, but nobody does know any better than the manager and the team. Coz that's their job and they live and breathe it.

Our role is to support our team, sing til the end and trust what's happening. We've had plenty of success and down times are expected. Just gotta hang in there.

I am a realist when it comes to support and will be there in the good and bad times but you cant half help to think that maybe what we have replaced up against our losses in player transfers may not be of the same calibre in certain positions this season and could be why we are finding finishing games a little more difficult (excluding acl)

Ono - Saba shinji oozes quality and knew when to put in the right pass and was a weapon at the set piece..Saba has trickery however over cooks the last pass sometimes with more time will get better but not shinji.

hersi-castellen very similar players in terms of quick feet in around the edge of the area however hersi could setup a goal and score one when he got into the area.

polenz and d'puzzo - mullen and adeleke

these two were very handy players and were tough in defence and could whip in decent crosses...i think we would have been better off keeping them instead of the two that are here now.

Anyway thats my opinion but the only thing that is obvious now is without tomi on the park we lack a few goal threats....ruka at least has shots and bridge can score but it would have been handy to have an additional marksman up front.
