  • Wanderers Lose To Mariners

    mack

An early goal to Josh Rose saw the Central Coast Mariners win 1-0 in Gosford tonight.

A cheap turnover by Romeo Castelen gave Anthony Kalik the opportunity to slice the Wanderers defence open with a throughball that found fullback Rose, and he made no mistake slotting past Dean Bouzanis at the near post.

The rest of the game was the usual Wanderers style this season, getting into the opposition area before going back to the keeper and losing possession, or firing long balls to the likes of Bulut & Castelen, who were monstered by the giant central defensive pairing of Bosnar & Anderson.

On occasion the Wanderers did manage to fire at goal, their shooting was wayward, half off target and none that ever really gave Liam Reddy a hard time. One of the few times they did trouble the Mariners keeper, he came flying out of his area to meet Alusine Fofanah, and managed to block the shot with his head.

A neat encapsulation of the Wanderers display came late on when Anthony Golec had a chance to make an overlapping run, called for the ball, but inexplicably stopped as the pass was delivered, finding himself unable to make up the ground on the well placed pass and seeing it run out for a goal kick.

Two events that stood out apart from the action itself were the deubt of Shayne D'Cunha as a late substitute for Sam Gallaway, and Ante Covic managing to get himself booked while sitting on the bench.

Western Sydney's next match is against Adelaide United at Parramatta Stadium on Saturday the 17th of April, kick-off at 5:30pm.

Too cool boys to cool can't wait too see Wanderers shirts at Saint vinnes cause no one thinks there's a cause worth fighting for

I honestly try really hard not to judge people. Especially not on an online forum. But damn it. Your posts are as nonsensical as they get.

Anyone else notice how hard bulut is on himself if he misses a chance at goal ?

He's his own harshest critic by the looks of it .

I'm inclined to agree with you here, although to be fair, if a guy on your team looks like Bulut with the same white line fever, are you going to be first in line on the pitch to give him a serve? :ninja:

This ACL reason/excuse is masking the fact that our players are sub-standard for the current A-league. Too many rejects from other clubs that the coaching staff think they can turn into champions and some players not giving it their best shot. Wonder if the new management and Morocco strike threat debacle has sapped morale.Mass cleanout required and sign CLASS players or next season will be another possible wooden spoon.

Heart bleeds for the wonderful supporters who deserve better than this shambles.

Even Parra has not sounded this good for a long while. Tonight we were at times ferocious. The RBB knows how to support and party like no other. Those who are simply upset with the loss/tactics etc are missing three quarters of what this gig is about. Fantastic night.

Absolutely this....a top effort in the support department!!  :good:

3 hours on the train to Gosford and 3 hours back.

    Totally worth it.

It was good to see other forum members tonight.

    This too!

    Ffs fight for your fans

Don't know what game you were watching. I saw plenty of fight. Let's not confuse an inability to get the ball in the back of the ******* net with lack of effort.

    Again agree!!

It was a ******* brilliant night. I brought my friend for his ever active support night out. Loved every second of it. Who cares if we're 9th or 10th? Lol this season has been over for a while now. All that's left is our pride in the terrace. And boy that's flying high.

    And yes!!    :xnod:

Finally, I've lost track...am I right in thinking that tonight will be the last time we play in that insipid away strip?  If so, that's some thing else to celebrate.

Proud to be a Wanderers supporter!   :)

Outstanding night on the terrace masked what was a pretty poor game.

Effort was there but not the execution.

Note to Bouzanis - long goal kicks up the middle when their centre backs are all a foot taller than our attackers is a very low percentage option so stop ******* doing it!!!!!!

After a couple of disappointing attendances tonight restored my faith - whole stand dale was epic!

The performance of the fans who travelled to Gosford tonite was definately the highlight of the evening.

We should be proud of the fact that we have such a loyal and passionate following especially when you consider our season in the A League. Great effort by the RBB and all wanderers fans in the stadium . Proud to be part of it tonite.

Well if anyone one day asks “What was the 2015 HAL season like for the Wanderers?†all you need to do is show them this game:-

    • We had loads of possession
    • Lost by a single goal
    • Had plenty of final third opportunities but failed with the final ball/shot/finish every time
    • The fans continued to sing loud and proud.

Besides the the numbers, the pub, the march etc... Pre match claping the Mariners 10yr day 1 members when they were doing their lap of honor was something to be proud of. They really loved it cause i don't think they were expecting that kind of a reception from so many away supporters.

Hats off to our great capos for getting all involved towards the end, sounded amazing. This is how we gain respect.

Very good point.... they obviously loved  that and responded with applause to our supporters!  It was impressive to see that!!   :good:

The last Dale, the post match 'can't hear mariners sing' and win or lose were so fun. could tell the players loved it, especially Mateo and kerem.

Don't know if they loved it, I think they appreciated the turn out but we're disappointed with the result.

Jayzo, I don't know where to start with you bro, we all love your input on here but at times you can be so way off the mark so often!! We are a pretty open & embracing bunch but you do test us!!

    On the match:

    - Thought it was bizzare that Popa didn't bring Juric on (but post match presser Juric had a shoulder injury which is why he didn't come on. Fair enough, but situation would have been perfect for Juric to come on 65-70min)

    - Long balls to players like Castelen, Fofanah, Kuzi & Kalmar who aren't strong in the air is a complete waste of time but we did it time after time, was just frustrating just like most of this match. DB distribution from keeper is not very accurate and not often did he pick out our target man Bulut.

    - nice for SDC to get his first team debut, that kid has a bright future :good:

    - That simple error controlling the ball from Castelen and Gallaway out of position as a result, so simple but just keeps on happening match after match is just so :nono: I know mental & physical fatigue comes into play after a long season but can we just reduce our errors at the back?

    - 15 shots (felt like 25) but couldn't create or score half decent opportunities was just so frustrating. That Bulut/Fofanah kicking each other instead of tapping the ball into the back of the net was another example of the frustrating manner of the match.

    - The referee was pathetic, this season the quality of referees has been a joke but his inconsistency in making simple decisions was another frustrating aspect of this match. The foul on Fofanah as he was through on goal not called but yellow card a few seconds later for a nothing challenge wtf? Or the time he played advantage but we got no advantage because the Mariners took the ball of us, instead of going back to the foul it's play on :nono: or the amount of soft fouls CCM got but the amount of times our players were hacked down time after time without any call from the ref was just pathetic!

    - The few positives from the game was the performance off the field! The RBB was going off/mental tonight and was just a magical performance for a team in last place and away from home was :good: Numbers were good, we were loud throughout & was a real party atmosphere despite what was happening on the field or how bad this season has gone for us since the ACL. Everyone who turned up should be proud & I hope you enjoyed singing/dancing for 90 minutes as much as I did :D

Typical performance, good build up and we mess it up with the last touch. Considering the line up and the fact we have nothing to play for, the guys did ok.

I have say that although we lost and it wasn't the biggest WSW away crowd, it was an enjoyable night. It could be that there was no pressure be I had a great night and I would rate this away trip up with the best.

All the people that made the trip wanted to be there to support their team and it showed. The ground was bouncing and you could tell the players appreciated it by the time they stayed back to applause the fans.

Just watching replay and how far the ref had the wall back at 94.06 for our free kick.

    About 7 metres?

Hutchinson post match praising mariners fans then says 'I can't believe it's that loud here'. Lol

Tara to Romeo 'where to from here'?

    Romeo - 'thanks'
