ManfredSchaefer Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Ouch, Mack... that new title... just ouch. Turner.... PS: Their East vs West "where do you live" poll came out: East Sydney: 116 (City, Southern Sydney, North Shore, Eastern Suburbs, Inner West, Shire) West Sydney: 39 (Blue Mountains, West Sydney) Other: 19 (Elsewhere in NSW, Outside NSW) Inside Sydney the percentages are 75% East, 25% West. I think their big struggle is with the idea that they aren't 'east Sydney' because some of them are from North Sydney or Cronulla. It's like they don't understand that they are East of us. Even if they happen to live to the South East, North East or slightly less East than the CBD. I don't believe there is strictly a geographical issue vis-a-vis the 'East' aspect of ESFC..it's more about the attitude, culture, sense of entitlement, the need to be the club with the most bling etc etc. Look at some of the posts here and in their forum about what they perceive as our values versus theirs, and it always comes back to not so much where you live but values that are more class conscious, which falls into the stereotypical Eastern Suburbs/Western Suburbs divide. Note how there are references in their forum about the ethnicity of our supporters, the harping on and on about 'westie scum', the comments cited previously about property values and travel time. ESFC are synonymous with Eastern Sydney values not necessarily eastern suburbs locations, hence the ability of some of their deluded fans coming here and boasting about their long term adherence to the Sydney is Sky Blue bullshite even when they live in the western suburbs. That's how some of our cross-city rivals resolve the paradoxical dichotomy of being a westie and an ESFC acolyte. Look at it this way; Lyall Gorman gets up in front of all of us and talks about sharing our values and wanting to be of our community. Tony Pignata, Scott Barlow & David Traktavenko can only see the dollar signs and the bling aspects of using eastern suburbs values as a springboard into Asia. Is it any wonder they are so dysfunctional? marron, Exile, blurbel and 1 other 4
Bob Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I'm actually have to disagree although i think we were a level above in active support, i actually really liked the Coves Tifo and thought it was well done and pretty clever, they deserve kudos for that. I thought it was a spectacular display. They just screwed up with the concept. Could I refer to it as their never ending straw man, where they try to make out that we are all ex SFC fans who have turned our backs on the sky blue, just so they can argue that they don't turn their backs, while at the same time saying we are new, know nothing etc. Furthermore they berate our support style, even though they had suggestions of doing the Poznan in their forum before we existed, from obviously a few people who understand true support and the whole idea behind it. They screwed up big time. Here we have the "who do we sing for" which they claim they invented. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ul_dhBzBIFY Certainly used it before we did no question. We are at their home ground, they out numbered easily and this was their best opportunity to dwarf and shame us in our most celebrated chant. Can you imagine how it would have been for us if the RBB yelled out "who do we sing for?" then only to have 2/3rds of the stadium yell back "we sing for sydney" and drown out the rest of the WSW support? But instead we have them staring like stunned mullets and even filming it while the only thing you can hear from the cove is the sound of crickets. GunnerWanderer 1
JamCal Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Sorry my analysis of syd fc / cove continues, they are just a laughing stock. They must have the worst choreo ever, so many times you see the first 2 rows jumping, then the next 3 are just standing there, half of the next row has their arms crossed and the other half is attempting to jump lol and so on.... its really a comedy act (then some are fighting with each other lol) Lol I always thought their choreo of swaying from side to side was impressive, and wondered why we couldn't pull it off, until I watched closely on the replay and saw they were sitting down to sway. Oh. Lol. Lame.

ManfredSchaefer Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 More media coverage of the farce that is ESFC, thanks to Ray Gatt in the Oz: IT hasn't taken long. The hounds are baying for blood at Sydney FC and it is no surprise coach Frank Farina is squarely in the sights of the ravenous mob. The optimism garnered from a season-opening win against Newcastle has now been replaced by deep-seated anger and pessimism following successive losses to Brisbane Roar (4-0) and Western Sydney in the Sydney derby (2-0). Much of the criticism is aimed at Farina, who has variously been described as "yesterday's man" and "not up to the job" in commentary from fans and critics on blogs and social media websites. Sydney appears headed for another season of immense disappointment and the answer, as far as the lynch mob is concerned, is for the Sky Blues management to take an axe that has almost become blunt from over-use and chop off the head of yet another coach - just as it has done six times in the nine-season existence of the club. But it is wrong to place all the blame on Farina's shoulders. The horrendous injury toll has no doubt hurt the club, with a list of missing players that includes Alessandro Del Piero, Brett Emerton, Corey Gameiro, Terry McFlynn, Pedj Bojic and Peter Triantis. Now Rhyan Grant, one of Sydney's best players last season, is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. That, however, does not excuse the performance of the fit and healthy players who have taken the park recently. It is easy to blame the coach but the players should not be allowed to hide from their responsibilities. They are professionals and, as such, are well paid for their services. But a lot of them are not producing - and some are probably not even up to the job. Where's the passion? Where is the pride in wearing the Sky Blue shirt? Maybe a few more need to go. In a blog last season, Farina warned his hands were tied. He wanted to totally rebuild the squad but too many players were still contracted to the end of this season. He managed to bring in six new faces but not as many as he would have liked within the financial and contractual constraints. Sydney fans are notorious for pointing fingers. Of course, it can cloud the judgment when your bitter rival, Western Sydney, is flying high and has just grabbed bragging rights again after its win on Saturday night. But the fans need to learn to be patient and to continue to show their loyalty by turning up in such large numbers as they did at Allianz Stadium. Importantly, the club, which has had a reputation for being dysfunctional, seems to be doing the right things off the field. For the first time in a long time there is stability at board and management level. The club, known as Bling FC in its days as the glamour team of the A-League, has single ownership in Russian millionaire David Traktovenko, memberships are at their highest ever, merchandise sales are outstanding and the average crowd figure has jumped from 11,000 to more than 18,000. The club appears to be doing its part so maybe it is time for the punters in the stands to recognise that calling for yet another coach to be hung out to dry simply isn't the answer any more. Had to have a giggle at the simplistic and blundering analysis of Traktavenko's ownership & board...how many of those memberships are fueled only by the signing of ADP who will be gone at the end of the season, and it's the same supposed stable management that has been responsible for their schemozzle in signing Crook, Farina, setting in place the structures that have allowed so many injuries and hack contract extensions etc etc.
PARRASFC Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 For all the talk about club philosophy, community engagement and 'capturing hearts and minds of the people', you forget that the single most important thing that drives fan support for the club is the team's performance. You'll disagree but it's true. If the team is performing well, the fans find more to sing about, find the extra strength to support the team even though they might be 3-0 down in a given game, find more goodwill in their hearts to participate in or drive community initiatives in the name of the club's supporters. People are just people, and trying to say SFC fans and WSW fans are somehow inherently different is naive at best. As that unofficial poll on SFC forum showed, just over 20% of SFC forum members were from western Sydney. WSW is only a couple of bad coach/CEO appointments away from becoming a sinking ship. After 2-3 seasons of failure as a team suddenly people realise they didn't love the club as much in the first place, and I've certainly seen people who were singing 'SFC till I die' during our winning seasons now find they didn't really connect with the club when they really sit down and think about it. That's human nature. The level of gloating in this forum is perfectly understandable and I'd be doing the same if the tables were turned, but when things start to go pear-shaped do remember what I said, that it only takes a few bad seasons for everything to start unravelling and suddenly you find yourself looking back at the good times. But do enjoy it while it lasts, because that's what keeps me going and it'll do the same for you too. Nathg 1
Jowel Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Ironically, the one thing that will finally motivate SFC to get its act together is the threat/competition posed by its main rival, the Wanderers. Neverbloom 1
