Fist half of the season he was great. The second half he seemed indifferent must have known he is leaving for quite a while.

I think his problem was he was a bit lightweight and by the end of the season teams found it easy to overpower him. In the first half of the season he was probably the best player I've ever seen here, but I can understand why the club decided not to take a punt on another season.

Having a salary & harsh foreigner caps don't help. In any other league (maybe except the MLS) in the world we offer him another year (or 2) at twice as much money as now, he accepts, and we keep a first team capable player in the squad.

Rumor is that he rejected the first offer, and the club decided not to revise the offer. Popa doesn't appear to be big on extended back-and-forth negotiations and is more a take it or leave it kind of guy. Just ask Mooy, Polenz, Hersi, or Bulut.

That's why contracts should be 1 yr plus 1 year extension if certain criteria is met especially for visa players.

Having one year contracts is going to keep causing this problem.

I hope he does go home. It'll be a lot more difficult to continue wearing my Andreu jersey at games if he signs for another A-League club.

He said himself in an interview (SST I think) that he rejected the first offer.

 

As said, it's a tough gig being a HAL manager. Had it not been for the tight salary cap restraints, I'm sure a contract would have been agreed on - within reason of course

Aris are a decent size club in fairness, they played in the Europa League only 4-5 years ago. Something must have happened to them though financially, because they only just got promoted back in to the 2nd division this season

Guy had some shockers, but was instrumental in our midfield... be interesting to see what style of play/tactics we apply this season. Possession football was great, but not finishing the plethora of the chances we created was our downfall.
