He came off the bench for us to great effect last time we met Adelaide. Maybe he can be used the same way on Friday night.

Just goes to show how impressive he has been for us. This will be a tough game. Adelaide are a good side. I hope for a win but would be content with a point.

Layouni subbed of at the 65th minute he did not appear to do a lot in Tunisia’s 1 nil win.

Hectic time for the lad, is he back to Sweden to pick up the family as well?, lot of air miles, two international games and transplanting the family, that's a big ask.

I'm not sure if he is coming back with them or if they are flying out themselves. If he is going back to get them, then he will be pushing it to make it back in time for the game. We are already missing Amalfitano and most likely Schneiderlin as well, so would be tough to not have him play as well.

Ninkovic was on The Global Game last night. He seemed to indicate that Layouni would on his way back today.

He also said that the team was looking at this as a bigger game than the Derby. The team is targeting a top 2 finish so this is a must win. Gauci didn't set his defence up for the corner as @mack highlighted against Ecuador, no one on the posts.

Damn I was hoping that Hoff at least would be back. Just farked with the Friday game day. Hmmm this says Amalfitano is available though so does the 8 yellow card rule actually kick in from r21? Therefore making him eligible for R22 against Adelaide?

That would be awesome if that is the case. Start of the season I always thought Amalfitano and Bozanic would be the main midfield so first time we get to see it with Hoff out. Schneiderlin likely to be off the bench to not aggravate the injury and Beadling as well.

Friday game is super tough, Adelaide have the luxury of players in the Socceroos camp that played in Australia only.

Had this been a Saturday or Sunday game, I think we would have been fine with the likes of Layouni and Nieuwenhoff returning.

D'Arrigo was in camp with Nieuwenhof!

I reckon it's the brains trust (Rudan, Bosnar and co) trying ducks and drakes with Vearts head.

I don't think you can name them in the match day squad unless they have been included in the extended squad.

It's not done every week, but there are sometimes changes to the extended squad before match day.

Can't believe the timing, I'm out... I'm off to see Vera Blue in Gosford Friday night.

You better win lads :aggressive:

Well, at least we won't have to worry about you complaining when you missed a goal when we scored when you were off taking a piss or something silly like that! :)

Ok Schneiderlin was back training today he just posted on insta. Big chance to be starting then. Guess I was too pessimistic

He will like the softened pitch.

Don't look into those extended matchday squads too much.

I suspect that on gameday, Nieuwenhof and/or Layouni will be late additions to the matchday squad. I suspect they've done this to make it hard for Adelaide to prepare for the game.

A few weeks ago, there was a player not even mentioned in the matchday squads, who all of a sudden was in the starting XI from memory (or on the bench).

The most confusing one for me is Amalfitano, maybe the 5 yellow card limit goes to 8 on the 21st matchday.

Should Nieuwenhof not feature, i'd expect Beadling to slot into midfield next to Schneiderlin. Beadling might finally get to play in his natural position, he has really impressed me considering all the struggles he's been through since the start of the season.

I badly want top 2, it means we qualify for AFC Cup, which is a competition I suspect we'd have a great chance of winning. Potential for us to become what I assume would be the first club in Asian football history to win the AFC Champions League and AFC Cup.

Hence, this game is extremely important, win and we go 2nd, lose and we stay back with the pack from 3rd to 5th. A draw leaves us with a chance to still make 2nd.

Game of the season, and potentially season defining. Adelaide will be a tough test, but I have full faith in our squad this season.

Ideally I prefer us in the ACL, I want that Japan and Korea away trip again

That won't happen for a while unless Australian teams start to perform in the lower competition unfortunately.

should get a larger crowd due to the high stakes

but I'm expecting less than 10,000 as it's a Friday and cost of living has sunk pretty much everyone

Next home game is against Melb Victory on Saturday night on the 15th April.

Following that game on Friday 21st April is home game against the Nix.
