  • Bulut Trains Sights On Brisbane

    mack

A Kerem Bulut brace has inspired the Wanderers to a 4-1 demolition of the Brisbane Roar tonight.

With both sides struggling to assemble a full strength squad, there were numerous changes and unusual deployments, in particular ostensible midfielder Luke Brattan being deployed as a central defender. Western Sydney took full advantage of Brattan's inexperience in the heart of defence with their first goal after 20 minutes. Romeo Castelen released Labinot Haliti on the left wing, with Brattan unable to decide if he should track the ball carrier or the inside runner, Haliti slid the ball through to Nikita Rukavytsya, his first time shot from a long way out beat the Roar keeper with speed and deadly accuracy.

5 minutes before the break the Roar struck back from a set piece. Brattan delivered a corner to the 6 yard box. Ante Covic stayed on his goal-line when he could have taken the ball easily, Aspropotamitis was marking Adam Sarota and won front position only to have the ball rebound off his leg and past Covic for the equaliser.

In the last minutes of the half Haliti was once again the architect of a goal. One the counter Haliti provided a brilliant cross field pass that found Castelen, who completely bamboozled Steven Lustica, the cutback to Bulut gave the striker a tap-in for a 2-1 lead that Western Sydney held at the break.

On the hour mark the visitors had control of the game and looked certain to take home all three points, Takahagi drew several defenders inside then played a reverse pass that found the intelligent run of Castelen. Crossing the ball along the face of the goal might have been the more usual option but Castelen elected to blast a strike high at the near post, Young getting a touch but not enough to keep out the shot.

Bulut secured his brace and the match for the Red & Black with a clinical finish in the dying embers of the game, La Rocca fired a through ball that split the Roar defence in half, Bulut had enough pace to beat the cover defence and he finished smartly at the near post.

Their 3rd win of the season lifts the Asian Champions off the bottom of the A-League ladder, and should give them confidence for their final fixtures of the season.

The Wanderers next match is against Perth Glory on Saturday the 28th of March in Perth.

Went to bed watching a WSW win.... woke up to a dominant Socceroos performance against Germany. Great stuff.

Popa set WSW up for consecutive wins - thinking the youth team would beat newcastle and the senior team could beat Brisbane. Very nearly got there too - just held back by covic's recent form.

Only bad thing, when Aspro scored the og neither Topor or Covic (who should have come for it) went and picked him up, put their arm around him and told him to forget it and get on with the game.

takahagi came over and gave him a pat on the back before encouraging everyone to go an get the lead back.

EDIT: Melons beat me to it... :good:

Takahagi is a class act, and a real team player - Always have time for that bloke after He came off the bench and congratulated Santa at the Riff

If I'm not mistaken, this was the most goals scored in a game away from home.

Brisbane were rubbish, but still, well done boys!

2-4 against Adelaide in Adelaide in season 1.....

Yes, you're right, I forgot about that.

didn't we beat Adelaide 6-0 season one?

Our biggest away win ever last night. Now to avoid the spoon (Tinkler needs it to stir the glue pot from his fire sale of his nags) and qualify for the knockout stages of the ACL. Get a great FFA Cup draw, a shiny new marquee for next season to add to an impressive roster who are starting to gel and the non membership renewal of the Bandwagoners. I'm already so excited for next season :clapping:  !!!!

We looked interested. We moved the ball quicker, we were more accurate with our passing. There was an intent to our possession. Our decision making was miles ahead from anything we've seen this season. We controlled the game. We dictated play.

This is by far out best performance of the season. By far. We played like we're champions of Asia. In control throughout the whole game.

    Couldn't be happier.

I personally wouldn't read too much into that kind of stuff,

there's plenty of time after a game to put your arms around someones shoulder

Yeah, but it is a captain and senior player's responsibility to show some support on the pitch for the young guys coming through, especially at moments where they are at fault or have a chance of getting in their own heads, as it could end up affecting their continued performance in the game.

I may cop a bit of stick for saying this but I'm still not sold on Topor as our captain. I don't think he possesses the same mentality that Beauchamp did. I have a feeling that the benefit of his captaincy is mainly convenience as he is pretty much one of the first names on the sheet each week.

If you need someone to hold your hand and tell you it's all okay when you make a mistake then you shouldn't be out there playing

I didn't say he needed to lend a shoulder to cry on, but a little camaraderie from the captain couldn't hurt.

Yes. It was an incredible effort given this season.

I thought there was some instability briefly after the Golec injury. But after the half time break Popovic, or the squad themselves, sured some things up and the rest is history.

Roars options were non-existent in the second half. Reminiscent of first seasons 'brick wall' defence. It did seem to me that in the last 20 minutes the players stopped "playing" for the win and were just so desperate not to concede, you'd assume a tough season does that to players.

The defensive effort was definitey a 'Champions Of Asia' display. Hopefully we can play the remaining amount of games in this fashion. Something may have clicked, the desire to play has been found again. Who knows?

We'll see what happens next. We could prove to be a real pain in Perths backside!

Hey we scored all five goals. Great performance by the whole team. When I saw the line up I thought it was a really strong side. Everyone tracked back in defence. Passing was great, even on that pitch. Composed, great movement off the ball. A pleasure to watch. Where has this been all season. Even the **** Ref. Couldn't spoil it. Whoever said they had a good feeling about tonight, hats off to you.

That's a pretty easy thing to do... I have a very good feeling about every game from when I awake on game day.   :woah:  :woah:  :woah:

Popa sees something in Aspro that a fair few of us aren't seeing completely just yet.

Tonight went a fair way in closing that gap I reckon.

I have followed this kid for a while Popa sees something in kid because I do believe Aspros has the ability to become the new Trent Sainsbury. His head screwed on and puts in the hard work his family are exceptional people. Jonathon has all the ingredients to go along way great vision very comfortable on the ball it's no fluke his been in the line up for two winning games he still has work to be done but his name, will be around for a very long time in Australian football. Popa hasn't got many things right this season but in young Aspros he pulled the Ace of diamonds.

I don't trust everything you say or agree about the way you go about things but on this I 100% agree. I really hope you're right on this matter but I fear for him, much the same way that Alessi had a stellar debut last season but has regressed in terms of his progress.

There are plenty of similarities amongst the two youngsters & seeing as we have no ACL next year as well as not having any mid week games we might see something similar to the first season (essentially play a non rotated team for the majority of the season with minimal rotation) which mean he might not get many chances next year. Unfortunately this is what happened to Alessi not getting many chances in the first team this year nor last year but this may have something to do with his performances on the pitch & in training rather than lack of opportunity.

    • Its also mainly Robbie Slater pushing it and has written several articles complaining about the new deal. So that's the other thing to keep in mind. I don't know if its because he is salty he didn't get picked up by anyone but he has continually attacked the new broadcast deal using buzz words "WORST" "TERRIBLE" "NEVER HAS FOOTBALL BEEN IN A WORST POSITION". Keep in mind Slater did play during the worst time in Australian football history back in 90s. Bloke forgets the treatment Fox gave the A-league in the final 3 years and how they gave up on A-league and football in general after losing EPL and losing subs to Optus.   Also note that Hill specifically addresses the opinions of the panelists Bozza and mainly Slater for their opinion on the tv deal. Hill actually agreed with a lot of the things Adam Peacock said and researched and actually requested for APL to respond to allegations. Bozza hasn't really watched A-league because he does a lot of analyses for Stan on Champions league something he himself has admitted but Slater has been none stop attacking A-league since it left Fox, with random rants but at the same time never acknowledging the poor crap Fox gave us, he never takes accountability of what he says.   Also note recent articles from newscorp attacking ch10 like in the next decade it will cease to exit article. So I don't if its a possible take over of certain ch10 assets, discrediting ch10 to get rights of certain shows on the cheap or just the usual rival networks having a go but newscorp is flexing on ch10.
    • He admits some bias by being an employee but even still, I feel that he’s overly simplified the whole paramount relationship and in doing so, glossed over many of the flaws.
    • I agree with lot of it but disagree with some of it. APL still got dudded by the Paramount deal, the incentivise deal was more like Paramount saying they will not pay cash.
