Who are Al Hilal?

Recommended Posts

I'm an Al-Hilal fan, ask me anything.

Hi Hilal - what point did they reach in 2013? Who beat them, and what new players do they have this season?

Hi. We reached the round of 16 in 2013 and got beaten by Lekhwiya 3-2 on aggregate. Sami Al-Jaber (former club's player) was appointed as a manager following the defeat and he changed the shape of the team almost completely.

New players:

1- Thiago Neves was brought back (was playing at Fluminense)

2 -Nasser Al-Shamrani (5 times golden boot winner in the Saudi league and the record holder of most AFC CL goals of all-time (25)) also joined the team.

3- Kwak Tae Hwi (Central defender) who used to play at Ulsan Hyundai when they won the AFC CL back in 2012 and he also scored a goal in the final that year

4- Saud Kariri (CDM) the Saudi national team's captain, who will be playing his 4th AFC CL final (the previous three were with Al-Ittihad).

5- Digao (Central defender) who was playing at Fluminense with Neves.

6- Mihai Pintilii (CDM) joined us coming from Steaua BucureÈ™ti.

Most of the changes focused on fixing the back line as you can see.

And we have a bunch of Western Sydneysiders and players no other teams wanted.

Here is hoping for a great couple of games brother.

Just to put into perspective how big the rivalry between club in Saudi Arabia:

This hashtag was created by rival clubs' fans yesterday after you guys won https://twitter.com/hashtag/%D9%83%D9%84%D9%86%D8%A7_%D8%B3%D9%8A%D8%AF%D9%86%D9%8A?src=hash

which translates roughly to "we are all with Sydney" (sorry guys, everyone in Saudi even the media, call your team Sydney not Western Sydney :P), also they created many account with the name "Saudi fans of WSW' and many of them even changed their profile pictures to your team's logo. If that wasn't enough, one of the Al-Nassr (Biggest Al-Hilal rivals) attended your match yesterday and shot this video mocking Al-Hilal  https://vine.co/v/OmJdbZLaltK

Alhilal fans wants to attend the match in Sydney, so I want to know the number of seats reserved for guests(alhilal fans). Thank you

Depends on where it's played bro.

Custom made red and black 3abayi for the away supporters over there?

That would depend on the venue - if it was Parramatta (if the officials can be swayed to let us keep it there) it wouldn't be a lot, but ANZ or Allianz will have plenty.

Most likely Sydney Football Stadium, AFC will probably shift the game there since its a much bigger stadium

I recorded a 7 minute interview with a middle eastern football correspondent this morning around 3am.

Talked about Al Hilal and Wanderers.

If anyone knows how to rip a recording from tunein radio app let me know and I'll share.

What is the climate of the matches played in Riyadh in early November?

Would a match in the Saudi League be harder then facing us or team like Seoul or Guangzhou?

Factbox: Al-Hilal

Founded: 1957

Nicknames: Al-Za'eem (The Boss) and Al-Mawj Al-azrag (The Blue Wave)

Titles: 55, including two Asian Club Championships (1991 and 2000)

Ground: King Fahd Stadium (61,781 capacity)
Built in 1987, it remains one Asia's most iconic stadiums, not only for its size but the unique "hanging" roof design. Australia experienced a hanging of sorts here in 1997, losing 6-0 to Brazil in the final of the 1997 Confederations Cup.

Manager: Laurențiu Reghecampf
Al-Hilal likes Romanian managers – they've had six of them before Reghecampf arrived. Only 39, he's already taken Steaua Bucharest to back-to-back domestic titles, which is why Al-Hilal made him an irresistible offer in May.

President: Abdulrahman bin Musa'ad
One of the richest men in Saudi Arabia and a member of the all-powerful royal family. His father was one of 12 children born to the kingdom's founder, King Abdulaziz.

Captain: Yasser Al-Qahtani
The most well-known Saudi Arabian player of the past decade, Al-Qahtani was a mainstay of the national team, scoring 42 goals in 112 internationals. He memorably dominated the 2007 Asian Cup, finishing as top scorer. Although 31, he remains a huge threat.

Watch out for: Nasser Al-Shamrani
With a nickname like "The Earthquake", it's a surprise to learn Al-Shamrani is just 173 centimetres. What he lacks in height he makes up in everything else. He scored all three of Al-Hilal's goals in their semi-final against UAE glamour club Al-Ain.

Damn, here we were thinking it was the fans of your team travelling to do recon on our team, better still it was from a rival club who was trolling you guys!!! Wow!!

Why are you guys hated so much in your own country?

What sort of atmosphere do your crowds create? Just reactionary stuff like whistling or heckling? Or is it more chants??

Do the fans pay for the tifo's you create or is it club funded? How do you manage to get around AFC restrictions when they are so strict in what you can say or do?

What are your active fans like? Does your club take a liking to pyro or flares? :ninja:

Roughly how much is your club valued? Do you guys have a salary cap? Who is your highest paid player? What is the combined amount spent on salaries at your club?

You mentioned that that Seoul's style of play would have suited you better than the Wanderers but in actual fact we are quite similar to Seoul in terms of the way play. Are you predicting a tight game with minimal goals? Or are you quite confident of scoring freely if and when you need to? The Wanderers are quite adept at hitting on the counter, how will you guys counter this especially being weak in the air?

What do you think of your coach? He doesn't sound like he has that much experience or has he coached for 5-10-15 years before taking up a role at your club? Do you think he is the sort of manager who makes things happen with his tactics or substitutions or is it the fact that you have very good players? Is he more of a motivator or tactician?

How would you rate your previous opposition? Was it that you were the better team anyway or did they just under perform or don't you think much of them (as in they wouldn't have beaten an East Asian opposition anyway)? You seemed to score plenty of goals in the semi final, why are you thinking so conservatively in terms of it being a 0-0 in the first leg of the final?

How have you gone in the domestic league this year? Where do you think you'll finish? Will you qualify for champions league football again?

What do you think of the way that the AFC splits up east and west Asia going into the final as opposed to the semi or quarter final? Do you think this advantages you or do you think you still would have progressed against a Evergrande or FC Seoul?

It sounds really hard to get multiple visas in such a short period of time for the second trip, do you think the club and government will allow wsw fans to travel to your country on such short notice? What about our wives and girlfriends who wish to make the journey, there are plenty of rumours that it is not really inviting country for women?
