Ins: 6.Marcelo (returns from suspension), 29.Terry ANTONIS (promoted)

Get him on for 10 mins, hopefully a week later Robbo will be on the phone from Washington, "how do you fancy the MLS Terry?"

Very strange decision tbh.

On the outer all season and hasn't played a competitive game of any sort.

(Has making the finals for the first time in six seasons made Rudan go insane. ?  :ninja: )

Here's the full squad line-up is anyone hasn't seen it:

Western Sydney Wanderers FC: 1.Daniel MARGUSH (GK), 2.Gabriel CLEUR, 3.Adama TRAORE, 4.Morgan SCHNEIDERLIN, 5.Tomi MRCELA, 6. Marcelo (C), 8.Oliver BOZANIC, 9. Kusini YENGI, 10.Milos NINKOVIC, 11.Amor LAYOUNI, 14.Nicolas MILANOVIC, 16.Tom BEADLING, 17.Romain AMALFITANO, 20.Lawrence THOMAS, 23.Yeni NGBAKOTO, 26. Brandon BORRELLO, 28. Calem NIEUWENHOF, 29.Terry ANTONIS, 31.Aidan SIMMONS, 33.Alexander BONETIG.

Here's my five reasons on why Terry Antonis might been called to the squad.

1) As someone else mentioned, the Wanderers NPL squad face off against Sydney FC same time tomorrow night so that means (despite not being called into the squad) Jarrod Carluccio, Nathanel Blair, Zac Sapsford, Alessandro Lopane & Alex Badolato will most likely be playing in that squad. However, Alex Bonetig and Aidan Simmons might also be called into the NPL squad (but, I doubt it). if that's the case, Antonis will slot into the bench as there will be one position left.

2) Rudan might be thinking "f*ck it, we've made the finals, time to rest the boys till the finals" so he has told Terry Antonis he can get some game time (more like warm the bench and hype up the players that'll actually get on the pitch).

3) Someone might of got an injury during the week (f*cking hope not) and Rudan has Antonis as 'Plan Z' as a replacement player.

4) Other clubs might be looking to sign Antonis so Rudan might be giving him some minutes before he goes?

5) This probably the most likely option which is take the squad line-up with a grain of salt as there's been numerous of times throughout this season where a player has been called into the squad at the last few hours before the game.

Maybe there is a rule saying you have to list 20 players, and with the NPL team draining the player list Antonis is the last man standing. He has Schneiderlin, Nieuwenhof, Ninkovic, Amalfitano, Bozanic, Milanovic and Beadling ahead of him so I would be shocked to see him get any game time. Bozanic would be rightfully pi#sed off if Antonis took the field ahead of him.

I don't think Antonis even get on the bench unless there are injuries in warm-up.

Cleur in for Simmons, Marcelo for Beadling and Beadling stays on the bench, Bonetig plays for the NPL side because Beadling takes his backup central defender spot.

With our current squad setup there is one spare space for 1 of Sapsford, Badolato, Wilmering, Simmons, Carluccio, Blair, Lopane or Antonis.

It'll probably be Simmons staying on the bench, while the rest play in the NPL and Antonis is the spare for the A-League.

One more option to add here

6) Antonis has been given a set of GK gloves so he has something to do during training. And after belting balls at him all year during warm ups it turns out hes better than Margush

He was better than Margush before the training.

Another point about finishing 2nd, beyond getting the week off. Bulls won the Australia Cup, so they get one of the AFC cup spots for next year. The other will go to either the winner of the GF or whoever finishes 2nd in the league (assuming City win the GF). It would be nice to get a chance to add a second star to the badge.

The previous winners have been from Oman, Lebanon, Iraq and Malaysia, with finalist from place like India and North Korea. Its a competition aussie teams should run deep into and likely win

the 2nd spot in AFC Cup will be awarded to 2nd place

winning the GF has no bearing on AFC as only one cup tournament is "recognised" by the AFC

That's how I read it as well. The GF isn't included because they had to recognised the previous season results where no one qualified due to the changing calendar of the AFC. Its the winner of the overall points tally from the previous season and current season going champions league which is now City.

The Asian cup (Europa equivalent) has the Bulls as Australia cup winner and the team that comes 2nd this season as the premiership was won by City and they are already qualified by the combined results of this season and last season. So all to play for and it will be fun in this new competition as well. Trips to Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong, Philippines and Malaysia :).  Plus see the reach of the Wanderers in Asia still remember our mates in Korea and Japan.

I think after this season it goes back to GF winner gets a spot. Still unclear with the changes from Asia.

Fun fact Asian Champions league 2022 is still ongoing. Old mates Al-Hilal and Urawa Reds play the final in May.

Ah, good correction.

Even more reason to nail these last to games

Great worked goal….but jeez if you were a Nix fan you would be pissed with that lol

Talay's a top offensive coach but the defensive side leaves a lot to be desired.

So…Layouni is a bit good eh

A bit, yeah

Seriously though, this is a bit reminiscent of that game last season where Perth utterly refused to drop their back line back down the park a bit and Ibini kept breaking on goal. We won that 5-0. Difference this time is we have Layouni running though, which is far more scary than Bernie "Bambi on Ice" Ibini
