  • Roar Tamed By Mebrahtu

    mack

A tense FFA Cup Round of 32 clash between the Brisbane Roar & Western Sydney Wanderers was decided by a solitary goal to injury ravaged winger Gol Gol Mebrahtu.

The 69th minute strike was well deserved for Mebrahtu who was arguably the best on the pitch throughout the contest. Numerous players were making their competitive debuts for the Wanderers, but it was Romeo Castelen who turned the game around with his introduction before his touch put Mebrahtu in on goal.

The flying winger made no mistake, with a calmly placed shot that completely beat Jamie Young. Brisbane had little impact in the second half, their best chances coming from free kicks awarded by the as usual, overzealous refereeing of Kris Griffiths-Jones.

The Roar managed to put the ball in the back of the net once, but the final touch was from an offside player and it was correctly ruled out.

Draw for the Round of 16 will take place tomorrow, at 4pm on Wednesday the 12th, with the full list of winners being: Adelaide United, Melbourne City, Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC, Western Sydney Wanderers, Perth Glory, Wellington Phoenix, along with National Premier League teams Rockdale, Sydney Olympic, Sydney United, Lions FC, Palm Beach, MetroStars, Heidelberg, Hume City & Oakleigh Cannons.

What jamieson did was a grub act, I hope Popa weeds that out from his game.

yeah no worries, he will get right on that. I will keep you updated with the progress.

Jamo's 'tackle' instantly endeared him to me.

agreed. he is one of us now. **** mckay

Considering we had 4 or 5 first team players and Brisbane had 8 or 9, plus much less new players they have had to blood in, great game.

Oh, now I remember something: why was Castelen #7?

Did the 1 fall off his jersey or... what

    Like I'm pretty sure he's usually #17

    New number as below:

    1.Dean BOUZANIS (gk), 2.Shannon COLE, 3.Scott JAMIESON, 4.Nikolai TOPOR-STANLEY, 5.Brendan HAMILL, 6.Mitch NICHOLS, 7.Romeo CASTELEN, 8.Dimas DELGADO, 9.Federico PIOVACCARI, 11.Brendon SANTALAB, 12.Scott NEVILLE, 14.Golgol MEBRAHTU, 15.Kearyn BACCUS, 16.Jaushua SOTIRIO, 17.Alberto AGUILAR, 18.Andreu GUERAO, 19.Mark BRIDGE, 20.Andrew REDMAYNE (gk), 21.Jacob PEPPER, 22.Jonathan ASPROPOTAMITIS, 32.Daniel ALESSI, 33.Josh MACDONALD, 36.Liam YOULLEY

Farrrrrrrk, i just got Castelen 17 on the back of my jersey and now its gonna look crap. Does anyone know how to remove safely a number 1 of the back of our jersey?

Great to get a win this time in the cup!

    What's everyone's preference?

    Sydney United?
    Rockdale?
    Sydney Olympic?
    ESFC?

    Victory?

Would love Sydney United or Rockdale.

Rockdale for sure. Followed by any other Sydney team, or anyone else as long as we play them at home.

Btw, how terrible did all the newbies look when the WDWSF was done in the end. They had no idea what to do haha!

Jamo was pssed because of gol gols back heel turnover so he basically just took it out on the roar player, its card everytime annd im happy for him to do it

Fair yellow card, but more importantly it lead to an abrupt stop to roar's counter. I would of thought a grub act was too knock the legs out from underneath a man.

Unrelated, who else thinks our goal keeper caught the ball and took it outside the box in the first half.

Man that looked close at best...

To be honest I couldn't even make out where the lines on the pitch were. When the penalty happened most of the people around me thought it was a free kick because we couldn't see where the box actually was.

Nah - Sydney United would be good (I could walk to the ground :) )

The draw for the next round is somewhere around 4:30 this afternoon on Fox Sports News.

I don't fully understand how the draw will work, however I am definitely sure that the A-League and Member Federation teams will be put into two diffrent pots.

The draw says to pick balls out of Pot A for aleague vs aleague. It does not say how many though. Exactly the same thing said for member federations.

Since there is an even 10 amount of A-League teams this year, there should be no chance of us getting a member federation.

So anyone.knows why the freeway was closed on Malgoa rd?

There was an accident at the roundabout leading to Glenmore park. Three cars were involved.

I watched the second half, was very pleased with what i saw. Lost of crisp, first time passing. Jamo overlapping, Nichols and Andreu passing well, GolGol has some tight footwork.

    I'm pumped AF.

edit: Anyone know what Jamo and Bridge were talking about after the match on the pitch? Jamo looked pissed

probably the fact that fathead wanted to take the penalty and missed again!

    The good:

Gol Gol, Andreu, Jamo, Castelen, Baccus, playing out from the back, passing triangles, 2nd half performance

    The bad:

1st half performance, Alessi looks out of his depth at the moment esp partnered with Hamill, we need another back up striker, sotirio was very ineffective

    The ugly:

Redmayne - inspires 0 confidence, we let Covic go for that... seriously, Pepper at right back, esp if the LW is Broich.

Wrong accident - that was the one prior to the game - (that roundabout at Northern Road & Glenmore Parkway is shocking at the best of times.)

(I assume) He was talking about the one on the ramp from Mulgoa Road, onto the M4 Westbound - with lots of Firies, Ambos, and Cops rushing there,  Absolute chaos for all those stuck on Mulgoa Road trying to head home after the match.  Hope all were okay.

My guess is that Jamo was pissed because he was doing a lot of overlapping runs and bridge totally ignored passing him the ball while he was in a good position. It happened a few times and if your Jamo making those kind of runs, you would be pretty pissed as well. That's what it looked like to me, you have to try and reward that kind of effort otherwise whats the point of making it.
