  • Seoul Take Point In Parramatta

    mack

Group H in the Asian Champions League is on a knife-edge after a tale of two halves in Parramatta tonight.

Kerem Bulut opened the scoring in the first half, with the FC Seoul equalising through Go Yo-Han on 70 minutes after taking control of the match in the second. Bulut took advantage of poor defending from FC Seoul, who failed to clear a bouncing long ball from Iacopo La Rocca, it let Labinot Haliti get in between the two central defenders and the ball fell into the path of Bulut who smashed home with a first time strike in front of the Red & Black Bloc.

Despite his influence in the Wanderers goal, Haliti's own finishing was abysmal, as he butchered two golden chances for his side to go two up, firstly firing wide after an intercept, and the second after meeting a glorious cross from Yojiro Takahagi but not even coming close to troubling the keeper.

The second half saw Seoul revived, as they took firm control of the game and eventually broke through for the equaliser. Working well around the box, Cha Du Ri cut back for Everton Santos and his cross found Go Yo-han for a tap-in.

Late drama abounded for both sides, with Tomi Juric being wrestled to ground with no penalty given, followed by the Wanderers with their own lucky escape, after a miracle save from a goalbound lob, Ante Covic looked to have carried the ball over the line. Fortunately for the reigning Asian Champions, the linesman was blocked by Covic's body and had no view at all to make a decision on.

The other game in Group H saw a shock victory for Kashima Antlers, the J-League side overcoming Guangzhou Evergrande 2-1. It leaves the group poised delicately, with all 4 sides capable of either qualifying or being knocked out with just two match days remaining. Western Sydney and Seoul are on 5 points (although Seoul have the benefit of an "away goal" in a Wanderers vs Seoul tie-breaker situation), Guangzhou on 8 & Kashima on 3.

The Wanderers next match is against the Central Coast Mariners on Saturday the 11th of April.

Haliti needs to learn when to shoot and when to pass,

shooting is not an option when there is 2 defenders in front of you and you are not even in the Penalty box

and if you are going to shoot, damn it, atleast get it on target!

WSW gave me multiple heart attacks yesterday, really felt like we threw the game away

now that Kashima is only 2 points behind us and Seoul, they will be harder to beat, they have a chance of progressing now...

Brenton Speed after seeing Josh and Tom with the trumpets.. something to the effect of “trumpets in the RBB, to the effect of the brass bandâ€.
    F*** off you idiot.

Apart from that we should have been up by some goals but whatever.

The last 10 minutes was the best Dale I’ve witnessed since pre-kick off in derby 4 where we did it for about 15 minutes and won 2:0 away.

Please sir, can I have some more?

Golec was copping it all night from popa I get the impression halti and bulut dont get on.

I mentioned this to some people near me as well, a couple of times in the first half haliti refused to give the ball to bullet when he was in clear striking positions.

Did you have someone sitting near you? Amazing, I had several rows to myself....probably should have had a shower before the game.

How many more chances is Golec going to get? We were discussing last night about how Ben Roberts when at the Bulldogs dined out on one try against Brisbane for about 3 years before the sympathy ran out and people saw him for the rubbish he was. Golec is Roberts x 2. The one cross he made for the goal to Juric is looking more and more like his defining moment, because now all he does is pass to opposing players almost every time.

With NTS having a Barry last night as well, we were very fortunate. I like the kid (Aspro), though - he's raw, but has some go.

    Has anyone put him straight?

i.e., la banda isn't a professional outfit etc etc?

I'd like to see the brass band have a jam in the street...

    FFS

and spot on about the Dale

No more chances for Golec if him signing for Perth for 2 seasons is true :P

Yeah weird Dale, it felt like everyone stepped it up a gear and tried to get the team over the line...

Yeah I know the irony of that comment lel

you wouldn't want to be like the mariner's brass band, for starters, you'd have to learn everyone else's chants

and learn themes from popular shows to play....

would need to gate unlocked so you can march along the rows and rows of empty seats around the stands

Would have to actually be another band that already exists that is for professional musicians that play standards off sheet music and get sponsored by the council to play other gigs and have formal rehearsals for those gigs where you also learn the songs for game day, sometimes, that is, when you haven't been hired to be somewhere else, because a gig is a gig right.

Which council you planning to be sponsored by?

be careful how you answer this question! this may or may not cause riots...

Critics a bit harsh on haliti. Yes his 'diving header' was park football standard but it was his determination chasing a lost cause created the goal and bulut didn't help him a couple of times with his runs.

Golec on the other hand :(

My working theory last night was that he has a crush on nts because he spent the whole game standing next to him rather than you know marking his man.

I don't know what Popa's halftime talks are like.... but they aren't working. At all.

One of the more frustrating games in a very ******* frustrating season.

Further to the Haliti/Bulut "rift"..... I reckon there's more than a bit of a "new boys club" that's formed... Bulut/Ruka/Castelan (and Saba was the same. Just look at his and Ruka's instagrams when Vitor was still here).... last week it was evident when one of the other boys stuffed up (may have even been Haliti)- Bulut and Ruka have looked at each other and thrown their hands up (like a "Can you believe this ******* guy" kinda action)

Maybe I'm reading too much into it. But I don't think I am.

Well my school holiday theory did nothing for attendance lol

I think that the school holidays actually hurt our attendance's.

The type of people who would bring their family to a game night (especially a cold one) are also the type of people to take their family away on holidays.

But even with a smaller crowd, how good was the spirit of the RBB last night!!!

They went on sale before we were **** though.

I don't get why in aus in general people don't seem to be interested in ACL games. Even victory fans aren't. To me, the football is more interesting, usually more open, the Asian sides are usually more technically skilled, and they are not the same bloody teams every week. I'd rather watch these games than a-league. not because of the prestige or what have you but I just find them more interesting.

I've been a "fair weather" fan for some recent HAL home games, but I won't miss an ACL game.

Looking at our previous ACL game, 7k seems about our core support size. Crowd would have been around that if not for the away freebies in that EVG game. This is the base number we will get hail or shine, weekend or mid-week in pouring rain. We have around 4-6k who are fans but can't be ar$ed to come to every game and then the rest are bandwagoners who turn up when we're winning.

Despite all our success we are still a work in progress and we'll build on that core support going forward. Only Victory have a larger core support. Roar fans are deserting in droves and the Smurfs are around 50% bandwagoners.

After we scored last night we went back to the old trick of trying to keep pushing one step further for that miracle killer ball around the box when we should've just been having a ******* go. Then as mentioned above, the rare occasions we did shoot, it was straight into two defenders standing directly in front...

Attendance was poor but unsurprising. The RBB was great, the stands were the most deserted I have ever seen them, particularly the Eastern stand.

My theory is two fold: One, our poor form; and two, the glut of home games we have had. Apart from the core 6k, I think everyone else is a bit worn out. We have had 15 odd home games since the start of the season (the more the better for me), which I think has worn down people, and a cold Tuesday night gives them an excuse.

The ironic thing is that those same people were probably complaining at the start of the season when we went ages without a home game... Poor petals having too much access to watch 'their' team... Cry me a river

They have to pay for ACL tickets. That's their excuse.

I'll never forget the raging debate of Parramatta vs. ANZ/Allianz for the final last year.

My and I believe your simple reasoning, if I'm not mistaken for another user, was that we refused to move venues for the sake of band wagoners. (not even talking about player psychology, just "F-uck the band wagon")

It's nights like last night that I can't help but take a step back and chuckle. Seriously where the **** were these people?

couldn't agree with this more. so glad we didn't pander to the event-goers. they don't deserve it. 7K is an embarrassment for the most important game we have played in  quite a while though. membership renewals will be very interesting. we hit a bit of a catch 22 this season - people knew they needed membership to get access to any games at all so they bought one probably with never any intention to actually attend even 50% of the games. this was great for membership numbers but it locked out a lot of potential new fans who couldn't get match tickets for games - now both groups have lost interest. this has left us in a ridiculous situation of having 12K travel to Brisbane for a final and then 10 months later having 7K show up for a crucial champions league game at home. the hope that we were going to be immune to the sydney fickle event goer mentality looks to have been misplaced. disappointing.
