  • Henrique Keeps Wanderers Anchored To Bottom

    mack

A dubious early penalty converted by Henrique on a stormy night in Parramatta kept the Wanderers winless and adrift in last place on the A-League ladder.

The gift penalty from Kris Griffiths-Jones was slotted down the middle by the diminutive forward, while the Wanderers were content to dink the ball around the edges of the penalty box in an apparent refusal to shoot at goal, a refusal which cost them a chance of getting even a point from the game.

Seyi Adeleke was adjudged to have brought down a Roar player in the box and Henrique made no mistake to open the scoring in the 4th minute. The Roar were the better in the first half but couldn't add to their lead.

The Wanderers took control of the match in the second stanza, but a seeming obsession with playing on the flanks instead of taking shooting opportunities began to frustrate the 10,000 strong crowd who braved the atrocious conditions.

Nikita Rukavytsya had the best and final chance for the home side, as he finally took advantage of some neat play to blast a shot that cannoned off the woodwork and went out for a goal kick.

The Wanderers next match is against Adelaide United in Adelaide on Saturday the 6th of December.

I really hope we don't descend into another rotation argument. Anyone who expects to see the same starting XI doesnt understand football.

It didnt hurt us last season.

Can we please nip this in the bud early.

It is an honour for the club to represent Asia in the World Club Cup but realistically what are our expectations? We seem to be sacrificing so many games for some other competition. Every time I see a second string starting lineup, I think that this season does not seem to count. How many losses or lost points does it take? We will struggle to get in the top six. Really need to step up next week or Adelaide are going to tear us up.

    I reckon we'll beat Adelaide.

    I said it first !

remember how **** we played before the ACL? lost the grand final, smashed by victory and beaten by Sydney - the we won the ACL.

I think we're gonna win the CWC

Knocked out of FFA Cup first round - wins ACL.

Bottom of HAl ladder - wins CWC.

    Sound logic.

With a rotated squad against Real Madrid too,

    It's the wanderers way.

Have to save the first team for the final against Auckland City

Im pretty baffled by people being unimpressed with Baccus's performance. I mean unless on tv he looked worse, but from the stands he was really tidy on the ball, actually dropped to pick up the ball from our defense, he beat quite a few markers and had a passing range that dwarfed both Poljak and LaRocca.

Its his 3rd a-league appearance in senior football. Im not saying hes gods gift to Wanderers but he showed a hell of a lot more promise then Trifiro and added somehting that LaRocca and Poljak are failing to do week in week out.

Im pretty disappointed in Adeleke's last 2 games, he seemed very sluggish. He needs some fire in the belly it seems.

Spiranovich too, sluggish and spends way too much time dwelling on the ball.

Our biggest downfalls are 1. Confidence. 2. Team unity and then 3 is our transitional play, sure we should be finishing the chances we do create, but we should be creating much more clear cut opportunities with the players in our attacking third, and this problem stems from our defense, and then to our simple minded midfield which just isnt working.

I wouldn't blame people for booing tonight!!! What are we that one eyed that we can't give it to the players and the coach ???

I left at 81 minutes disgusted in the fact that we conceeded in the 4th minute and never really deserved to equalise!!! And mind you brisbane are shite also and that's how bad we were tonight we couldn't finish off a shite team missing their best player and a caretaker coach!!! Absolutely disgusting !!!!

We looked ten times as dangerous when he arrived. Saba still finding his feet.

Realistically we're aiming to take out 5th or 6th position in the table and then go on to become the first A-League club to become "Champions" from outside the top two. Given our ever so short history, if there's any team in the competition (world?) that can do that, it's us. It's a psychological thing. We're 4 points behind 6th place with 19 games to go i.e. in terms of objectives, sitting comfortably. In addition we're about to go to the WCC for potentially the experience of a lifetime... playing Real Madrid in a competitive match, something many European teams can only dream of. I think we need to relax, enjoy the moment and look forward to what lies ahead.

Ruka scares defenses senseless.  Will be our best attacking player this season once he's had a decent run.  Hope he starts this weekend.

Castelen had a tough first half.  Constantly double teamed and if he did slip a marker he got pulled down.  Second half managed to slip the double team more so they rugby tackle him instead.  Must be frustrating for the guy.

Jury out on Saba.  Has a long way to go.  We'll have to be patient.

People keep on saying that the asian cup break could do some good for the players because of the rest.

But our main players including Spiranovic and quite possibly Topor-Stanley, Juric, and Rukavytsya could be playing, they aren't getting a rest.

Not sure when Ruka last played for Australia, but Ange has rocks in his head if he isn't seriously considering him

Ruka looks the guy most likely...unfortunately right now its most likely to hit the woodwork - but once he gets one in, I get the feeling plenty will follow.

I've thought previously Castelen has looked a little lacking in pace out wide and takes one touch too many, but last night he looked really good when he could shake the markers.

I'm glad someone earlier mentioned missing Santa...I sure as **** do

I dont like the way our attacking line swap positions during the game, its a good idea, but so poorly executed. We end up with Castelan and Bridge in the middle twiddling their thumbs or Saba day dreaming on the left. It needs to be done as rehearsed or not done at all, because we just end up with right and left backs with no clue of what to do, and players all stuffed into the 18 yard box.

Our season 2 slump has come a bit late. Will help give the fans a shake up too. Or find out who the real fans are.

Was talking to a mate of mine at the stadium about this. We both agreed we wouldn't mind a dreadful season.

As a fan base we have more to gain from losing then winning lol

People need to remember the words to the song - "We will follow you forever, We will be by your side".

The real lyrics are "we we follow you forever; always we'll be by your side"

but no one has sung it right since season 1 :(

I tried to advocate change back then but it fell on deaf ears.

The incorrect lyrics that everyone sings makes no sense!

Ineed, you had to laugh last night when the ball was chipped in to the penna area and it bounced off two WSW players legs under not that much pressure, can't remember who the two were now, but neither had a clue where the other man was or if to shoot are not, so in the end nothing happened. That play sums us up well at the moment.

The only players we have at present who know where the back of the net is are Juric and Santalab. The rest couldn't hit a cows arse with a **** banjo.

I don't think popa should have gone to Manilla to collect that award. He spent hardly any time with the players between the Derby and last night. Things like that really do make a difference.

They say in England that the manager of the month award is a curse and that only defeat and misery will follow...... Popa has the manager award curse!

    We'll be fine.

Saba will be finkler... He wasn't phenomenal from day 1.

    Castelan will poop on Hersi.

Ruka is going to score a load once he stops hitting the posts.

We lack a creator right now though, a wizard in the middle. And a strong no effing around beast up front to do the filth ... Dino! Tomi can't do it all alone.

Everyone... Take a deep breath ;)

Great turnout considering parra area flooded in 30 minutes of mayhem. Most of those that couldn't make it would've been families with kids who of they are unsure on dry weeknights would've said he'll no! Though I reckon the kids would've begged parents to take them.

Anyone walking out in 81st minute or early can keep walking to Moore park.

Harsh to say the least.... after all he's done for us! If he hadn't gone to "collect" it, he wouldn't have been awarded it.

Wanderers were extremely poor on the night.

Too slow in build up and not compact enough.

It seems every team has improved ... but we will catch up and make the play offs. Of that I have no doubt.

Sorry mate can't agree , 4 consecutive games at home , and not one win , had to play his best team in order to pick up points last night given the desperation of the situation

Last night we crossed all night aiming for who ???Haiti??? If you don't want to start Juric fine put him in the bench, to have your only goalscorer in the last month sitting in the stands makes no sense

Honestly we looked like we hadn't played together before in a game we really had to win ... Disjointed and very very slow paced ...

I still think one win can turn it around but we are seriously running out of time

This rotation policy has to be scrapped.... You play your best 11 each and every game and that's it.... To not have Juric , the one player who can score not on the team tonight leaves me baffled

Remember when people said this early-mid last season?

last year we weren't 0 from 8......just saying

say it as much as you like last night was a must win game , thus the best 11 had to play

It was reported that Juric was suffering from hamstring tightness. Even if he weren't it clear from his injury history that it would not be wise to run him into the ground. He is our only fit senior out & out striker & we need to think long term.

There are 19 games / 57 points still available. Ages to go.

Last year we didn't win a trophy, let alone the biggest trophy an Aussie club can win.
