Western Sydney Wanderers vs Newcastle Jets 11/02/2024 5:00PM

The clock is ticking......The inconsistency has to stop.

This is a must win game if we want to challenge for the championship and we have to show more than what we have so far. It's like we take one step forward and two steps back. For instance we get Borello and Hendrix back but lose Simmos and Beadling.

Blaming the refs is just deflection against how we set the team up imho. Sure, we can complain about decisions or individual refs but at the end of the day we are the architects of our own destiny. The result againts the Bulls is on Rudan and the setup and how we play.

The Jets won't be easy. The way we play at times no teams are. You just never know from game to game what we're going to get on the pitch.

We may make the finals or we may not. Up to the players and coaches whether we do or not.

After last week Rudan needs to really sell this as a chance for the players to react. Don't like the refereeing decisions last time? Then absolutely demolish the Jets to prove you would have won on a level playing field.

Jets have only won one of their last six games, conceding 12 and not keeping a single clean sheet. You know they're going to try what they did last time and play Buhagiar and Stamatelopoulos into the spaces behind our fullbacks. If we score early they can sit a little deeper, we can be more patient in build up then I can't see how they get past us. If we concede early and they can play on the counter then it's going to be a long afternoon.

Needs to be a big win, have to take the refs out of the game entirely. They will be gunning for us even harder than usual. Jets play smashing long balls over the top, our fullbacks need to not be playing so high it's one on one when it's pumped long.

Hendrix might have to play central defence again, either Ninkovic or Kittel must start, dominate posession and set up an early goal to stop Jets from bus parking.

It's already a hard road to get back in top 2, if we drop points it puts us in a bad spot just to make a home final.

I think we are forgetting that we have an unexperienced team taking the field this season.

I cannot think of another time in our short history, when so many youth team players were given significant minutes on the pitch.

Badolato, Priestman, Hammond, Scicluna, Sapsford... Milanovic and Brook are only 22. Add Simmons and Younis to that list from previous weeks... maybe we are expecting too much too soon.

Perhaps this is a contributing factor for the inconsistency, but in the long term, it will benefit the team.

I think the inexperience in the team is the main reason for our inconsistency. I would say that only Milanovic, Simmons and Bonetig show the consistency required to be regular starters. All of our other young players should be taking it in turns to come of the bench for the last half hour or so of matches to give them the experience without the pressure of having to deliver week after week. That's how Melbourne City used their talented young players (e.g. Tilio, Atkinson) when they were the benchmark team. Unfortunately for us we over-invested in youth this season and have no choice but to playwith a majority youth starting lineup.

Well form says this is a guaranteed win. However we really need to show up as they did us bad in the 1st half 2-0 the first time round in one of the worst performances of the season, then somehow gutsy up to get the draw. Stop Stametolopolous and we should get the win.

So the club did not fight the Simmons 3 week suspension.

Or, if they did, another "surprise" inclusion on Sunday.

Btw

It is sort of a double-header weekend against Newcastle. The women play Newcastle is Bathurst tonight at 7:00pm.

And just like their men's side there are ex-Wanderers.

They definitely didn't fight it. We never fight any red cards. Also, not sure how Bonetig goes from a moon boot to being promoted within a couple of weeks.

Those inclusions mean nothing. He's included our only spare fit center back and we know, sure as the sun rising tomorrow, he wont field Doni Grdic.
