The Western Sydney Wanderers finally broke their season long home victory drought, as they comprehensively outplayed the Newcastle Jets 2-0 at Campbelltown Stadium.

The match was a clash of two outfits in a similar place on the A-League ladder, but the conclusion was one of total dominance for the Wanderers.

Despite the return from suspension of Brendon Santalab, coach Tony Popovic elected to continue with Lachlan Scott up front, and his choice paid dividends right before half-time. Kearyn Baccus has finally started to look like challenging for a first team position and he punctuated his good performance with a killer ball through the middle of the Jets defence. Having found Scott, the young striker turned on the ball before lashing a clinical strike into the top right corner and giving Jack Duncan no chance to make a save.

The second half continued in the same vein as the first. Newcastle huffed & puffed but never truly looked like bothering the scorers. The Wanderers doubled their advantage in the 68th minute. Mitch Nichols blasted a shot at Duncan from the byline, it rebounded to Dimas Delgado who found an unmarked Jaushua Sotirio. He swept his foot to the ball, with it taking a deflection from Mateo Poljak that wrong footed the Newcastle keeper for the 2-0 scoreline.

Newcastle tried their best but failed to take control for any meaningful amount of time, and the game was in far more danger of finishing 3-0 than the Jets pulling a goal back. Neither side could add to the scoreline however, with the Wanderers picking up their first home win of the season just in time to visit the Brisbane Roar next week.

Well done to the boys - well done to young Scott who scored a classy goal, to Nico for another MOM..another clean sheet!

Clearly we look so much better being direct, rather than 15 passes between the mids and centre backs. - we so need to look playing more like this against the Roar

I'm a fan of Jumpei, but even in his cameo he was being pushed off the ball still even against a tired Jets

What did Scott answer with when asked about our striker requirements?

They asked him was the talk about getting a striker impacting him. He said no, he trains hard and aims to improve, and then he said with ACL and last half of the season to play, we do need another striker. All very calm and composed with his response. It was good response from him.

Good to see our defence is solid. Janjetovic has done an unbelievable job so far. 2.5 games without a goal and I bet that guys like Aspro, Clisby, Neville and Cornflakes are benefiting more than anyone else from it. Even Hamill looks to have stepped his game up.

The young guys will all come through. So much crap put on Sortirio, yet his qualities are starting to show now. The kids just need more games. Aspro also coming along good, and Baccus and Scott will eventually get there. They all have the talent. Just need the right mix of players in the team. Balance between youth and experience.

Scott's first goal & Sotirio actually had a good game today (not just ran hard all day) :good:

Another game without Borda & we look good, another game without Bruno & we look good!!

A win we desperately needed but a long way to go before I can get a little more excited about the post season cup

Move all games to Campbelltown for next few years plz, good performance despite the poor shoot faqing and left foot wizard Nico gives me sexual feelings.

Nice to see Scott get his first goal and Sotirio was great again, maybe we could just start our run for final six and ACL.

    Bring on Brisbane.

It's an old ground with restrictions on capacity but it's better for football than SOP.

It was a win but not the performance we needed. This was a Jets team who let's face it are struggling to be in the mix for 6th and were without 3 key players.

I was hoping we would be dynamic and all over them but it was a struggle at times. We lose far too much ball in midfield, just getting caught in possession.

Defence looks sorted. Sotirio was decent again and Scott got off the mark. We won't be challenging for the title though with this team. Visa players are the difference and we only have 2 who are first choices.

Hope we do bring someone in. It feels sometimes Popa is stubborn and wants to prove that he was right when he said he's happy with the squad.

Brisbane away is massive now. Lose and the air goes out of our slightly inflated balloon.

Yes, because we kept them out of 6th! ;)

No way this team is going to be dynamic. Not with the personnel we have. Get used to more of the same. This was never going to be an easy game as it was a psychological more than anything for us to finally win a game. It was always going to be a scrap for us. But if we can keep our defence strong, it's a start to hopefully salvaging something from the season.

    Good solid game.

Slightly less of the monotonous passing that makes me want to pull my hair out. Equally we moved forward more often. It felt more positive. Funny that. I still tend to mutter, don't farrrkk it up, everytime jumpei gets the ball, but again that was less than usual. Tiny baby steps forward, but last two weeks have been an improvement.

Would have liked to see Antonis have a run

Well I rocked up to the game a few minutes late with wife and baby in the pram.

While we were deciding where to sit, the wife and pram were nearly taken out by a rocketing incoming stray ball from the field.

Thankfully it missed them by centimetres, and even more thankfully my 7 mth pregnant wife was in good spirits afterwards. Happy hubby. :)

Unfortunately, the day was a little too much for the 1 y.o., and as predicted the celebration of Scott's first goal was too much for him.

So we called it a day at halftime.

I still enjoyed his 1st game, even if he didn't. ;)

Might have to wait til he's a little older before his next game.

And maybe not wait until the game starts before we wake him up. Rookie mistake.

    What was the crowd?

Just under 9500, more than I thought would turn up to be honest. I like Campbelltown good little ground

I wouldn't trust the crowd figures, when we got there the scanner wasn't working and we all just gave them the bit with the barcode on it, so  probly not included in the figures.. Looked more than 1/2 full to me... :-)

I thought it looked a good crowd, I was expecting a low one given the amount of regulars I knew that weren't going. I thought we would be lucky to scrap 8000 but it was a decent turn out.
